Helium atom scattering studies have the potential for making numerous breakthroughs in the study of processes on surfaces. As this field remains active, there will frequently be new young researchers entering the field. The transition from student to researcher is often met with difficulty, consequently wasting limited time available for a PhD or masters level research. Addressing this issue, we present an educational package for emerging research students in the field of helium atom scattering. We hope that this package serves as sufficient material to significantly accelerate the progress made by new postgraduate students.

Due to its versatility and low cost, the use of unmanned aerial vehicles has been rapidly spreading in recent years, in applications ranging form military operations, to land mapping, rescuing of lost people, aiding of natural disaster victims and ma ny others. To properly design and operate such a vehicle, it is necessary to know its flight mechanics in the various stages of the flight. Despite the fact that the physic behind the analysis of an aircrafts flight mechanics is well known and purely based on Classical Mechanics, the large quantity of input and output data involved favors the use of a computational toll. This work presents the development of a toolbox called APT (Aircraft Performance Toolbox), able to make preliminary aircraft flight mechanics calculations regarding its performance. To achieve this goal, a number of Matlab scripts were created to perform the calculations, and a graphical interface was created to unify them and to allow the end-user to perform the analysis in a clear and intuitive way. To illustrate the potential of the toolbox, we use APT to in the analysis of an UAV meant to participate in the SAE Brasil AeroDesign competition of the year of 2014.

R is a programming language and environment that is a central tool in the applied sciences for writing program. Its impact on the development of modern statistics is inevitable. Current research, especially for big data may not be done solely using R and will likely use different programming languages; hence, having a modern integrated development environment (IDE) is very important. Atom editor is modern IDE that is developed by GitHub, it is described as A hackable text editor for the 21st Century. This report is intended to present a package deployed entitled Rbox that allows Atom Editor to write and run codes professionally in R.
The fundamental principles of quantum mechanics are considered to be hard for understanding by unprepared listeners, many attempts of its popularization turned out to be either difficult to grasp or incorrect. We propose quantum cryptography as a ver y effective tool for quantum physics introduction as it has the desired property set to intrigue students and outline the basic quantum principles. A modular desktop quantum cryptography setup that can be used for both educational and research purposes is presented. The carried out laboratory and field tests demonstrated usability and reliability of the developed system.
We build on theoretical foundations of tool-mediated learning, tool design, and human computer interaction to develop a framework for implicit scaffolding in learning environments. Implicit scaffolding employs affordances, constraints, cueing, and fe edback in order to frame and scaffold student exploration without explicit guidance, and it is a particularly useful design framework for interactive simulations in science and mathematics. A key purpose of implicit scaffolding is to support a range of educational goals including affect, process, and content. In particular, the use of implicit scaffolding creates learning environments that are productive for content learning and are able to simultaneously support the affective goals of student agency and ownership over the learning process - goals that may not be addressed in more directed learning environments. We describe how the framework is applied in the context of the Energy Skate Park: Basics simulation, a simulation aimed at middle school student learning of energy concepts. Interview data provides an exemplar of the process by which implicit scaffolding can support productive student exploration with a computer simulation. While we present this framework for implicit scaffolding in the context of computer simulations, the framework can be extended and adapted to apply to a range of tool-mediated learning environments.
Recently developed quantum mechanical theory of inelastic He atom scattering (HAS) from solid surfaces is employed to analyze the energy transfer between projectile particles (thermal energy He-atoms) and vibrational degrees of freedom (phonons) char acteristic of a variety of experimentally studied surfaces. We have first calculated the angular resolved energy transfer which can be directly compared with the values deducible from the HAS time-of-flight spectra and a good agreement with experimental data has been found. This enabled us to calculate the total or angular integrated energy transfer, which is of paramount importance in the studies of gas-surface scattering, but is neither accessible in HAS (which yields only the angular resolved quantities), nor in the wind tunnel measurements for surfaces whose atomic composition and cleanliness must be maintained during the experiment. Here we present the results for prototype collision systems of this kind, viz. He => Cu(001), He => Xe/Cu(111) and He => Xe(111) which are representative of the very different types of surface vibrational dynamics and thereby provide an insight into some common properties of energy transfer in gas-surface scattering.
