The only way neutron matter can couple to the electromagnetic field is through an anomalous coupling, which plays an important role in the thermodynamics of pure neutron matter. Such theories are, however, perturbatively non-renormalisable, which presents a difficulty in terms of the unambiguous treatment of the divergencies. Here we show that despite this, an unambiguous expression can be obtained for the vacuum energy contribution to the grand canonical potential in the case of a constant magnetic field. We find that this contribution is quite small, which justifies the no-sea approximation usually made. We also discuss the density and temperature dependence of the full grand canonical potential.

Using the Hellmann--Feynman theorem we analyze the contribution of the different terms of the nucleon-nucleon interaction to the spin symmetry energy of neutron matter. The analysis is performed within the microscopic Brueckner--Hartree--Fock approac h using the Argonne V18 realistic potential plus the Urbana IX three-body force. The main contribution to the spin-symmetry energy of neutron matter comes from the S=0 channel, acting only in the non-polarized neutron matter, in particular the $^1S_0$ and the $^1D_2$ partial waves. The importance of correlations in spin-polarized neutron matter is estimated by evaluating the kinetic energy difference between the correlated system and the underlying Fermi sea.

The superfluidity of neutron matter in the channel $^1 S_0$ is studied by taking into account the effect of the ground-state correlations in the self-energy. To this purpose the gap equation has been solved within the generalized Gorkov approach. A s izeable suppression of the energy gap is driven by the quasi-particle strength around the Fermi surface.
The thermal evolution of neuron stars depends on the elementary excitations affecting the stellar matter. In particular, the low-energy excitations, whose energy is proportional to the transfered momentum, can play a major role in the emission and pr opagation of neutrinos. In this paper, we focus on the density modes associated with the proton component in the homogeneous matter of the outer core of neutron stars (at density between one and three times the nuclear saturation density, where the baryonic constituants are expected to be neutrons and protons). In this region, it is predicted that the protons are superconductor. We study the respective roles of the proton pairing and Coulomb interaction in determining the properties of the modes associated with the proton component. This study is performed in the framework of the Random Phase Approximation, generalized in order to describe the response of a superfluid system. The formalism we use ensures that the Generalized Wards Identities are satisfied. An important conclusion of this work is the presence of a pseudo-Goldstone mode associated with the proton superconductor in neutron-star matter. Indeed, the Goldstone mode, which characterizes a pure superfluid, is suppressed in usual superconductors due to the long-range Coulomb interaction, which only allows a plasmon mode. However, for the proton component of stellar matter, the Coulomb field is screened by the electrons and a pseudo-Goldstone mode occurs, with a velocity increased by the Coulomb interaction.

We present a systematic study of disappearance of flow i.e. balance energy $E_{bal}$ for an isotopic series of Ca with N/Z varying from 1 to 2 for different density dependences of symmetry energies. We also extend this study for asymmetric reactions having radioactive projectile and stable target.

Because of thermal expansion and residual interactions, hot nuclear fragments produced in multifragmentation reactions may have lower nucleon density than the equilibrium density of cold nuclei. In terms of liquid-drop model this effect can be taken into account by reducing the bulk energy of fragments. We study the influence of this change on fragment yields and isotope distributions within the framework of the statistical multifragmentation model. Similarities and differences with previously discussed modifications of symmetry and surface energies of nuclei are analyzed.
