We derive a one-parameter deformation of the refined topological vertex that, when used to compute non-periodic web diagrams, reproduces the six-dimensional topological string partition functions that are computed using the refined vertex and periodic web diagrams.

We consider the refined topological vertex of Iqbal et al, as a function of two parameters (x, y), and deform it by introducing Macdonald parameters (q, t), as in the work of Vuletic on plane partitions, to obtain a Macdonald refined topological vert ex. In the limit q -> t, we recover the refined topological vertex of Iqbal et al. In the limit x -> y, we obtain a qt-deformation of the topological vertex of Aganagic et al. Copies of the vertex can be glued to obtain qt-deformed 5D instanton partition functions that have well-defined 4D limits and, for generic values of (q, t), contain infinite-towers of poles for every pole in the limit q -> t.

We propose new topological vertex formalism for Type IIB $(p,q)$ 5-brane web with an O5-plane. We apply our proposal to 5d $mathcal{N}=1$ Sp(1) gauge theory with $N_f=0,1,8$ flavors to compute the topological string partition functions and check the agreement with the known results. Especially for the $N_f=8$ case, which corresponds to E-string theory on a circle, we obtain a new, yet simple, expression of the partition function with two Young diagram sum.

We clarify three aspects of non-compact elliptic genera. Firstly, we give a path integral derivation of the elliptic genus of the cigar conformal field theory from its non-linear sigma-model description. The result is a manifestly modular sum over a lattice. Secondly, we discuss supersymmetric quantum mechanics with a continuous spectrum. We regulate the theory and analyze the dependence on the temperature of the trace weighted by the fermion number. The dependence is dictated by the regulator. From a detailed analysis of the dependence on the infrared boundary conditions, we argue that in non-compact elliptic genera right-moving supersymmetry combined with modular covariance is anomalous. Thirdly, we further clarify the relation between the flat space elliptic genus and the infinite level limit of the cigar elliptic genus.
We analyse the computation of the partition function of 5d $T_N$ theories in Higgs branches using the topological vertex. The theories are realised by a web of $(p,q)$ 5-branes whose dual description may be given by an M-theory compactification on a certain local non-toric Calabi-Yau threefold. We explicitly show how it is possible to directly apply the topological vertex to the non-toric geometry. Using this novel technique, which considerably simplifies the computation by the existing method, we are able to compute the partition function of the higher rank $E_6$, $E_7$ and $E_8$ theories. Moreover we show how in some specific cases similar results can be extended to the computation of the partition function of 5d $T_N$ theories in the Higgs branch using the refined topological vertex. These cases require a modification of the refined topological vertex.
We derive closed formulae for the first examples of non-algebraic, elliptic `leading singularities in planar, maximally supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory and show that they are Yangian-invariant.
