A general approach to the construction of bound states in quantum field theory, called the renormalization group procedure for effective particles (RGPEP), was applied recently to single heavy-flavor QCD in order to study its utility beyond illustration of its general features. This heavy-flavor QCD is chosen as the simplest available context in which the dynamics of quark and gluon bound states can be studied with the required rigor using Minkowski-space Hamiltonian operators in the Fock space, taking the advantage of asymptotic freedom. The effective quarks and gluons differ from the point-like canonical ones by having a finite size $s$. Their size plays the role of renormalization group parameter. However, instead of integrating out high-energy degrees of freedom, our RGPEP procedure is based on a transformation of the front-form QCD Hamiltonian from its canonical form with counterterms to the renormalized, scale-dependent operator that acts in the Fock space of effective quanta of quark and gluon fields, keeping all degrees of freedom intact but accounting for them in a transformed form. We discuss different behavior of effective particles interacting at different energy scales, corresponding to different size s. Namely, we cover phenomena ranging from asymptotic freedom at highest energies down to the scales at which the formation of bound states occurs. We briefly present recent applications of the RGPEP to quarks and gluons in QCD, which have been developed using expansion in powers of the Fock-space Hamiltonian running coupling. After observing that the QCD effective Hamiltonian satisfies the requirement of producing asymptotic freedom, we derive the leading effective interaction between quarks in heavy-flavor QCD. An effective confining effect is derived as a result of assuming that the non-Abelian and non-perturbative dynamics causes effective gluons to have mass.

We propose an algebraic form for the density of states of quarks and gluons in a Quark-Gluon Plasma (QGP) fireball in quasi-equilibrium with a hadronic medium as $rho(k)= frac {alpha}{k} + {beta}k + {delta}k^{2}$, and determine the parameters $alpha$ , $beta$ and $delta$ using Lattice Gauge results on the velocity of sound in QGP. The behaviour of the resulting $rho(k)$ can be easily compared with the thermodynamic data on QGP that is expected from LHC and other RHIC experiments. Our numerical result shows a linear rise of the value of $rho(k)$ for $ksim T approx 160 to 180 MeV$, which is significant, and throws light on the evolution of the QGP phase.
We study the emergence of color superconductivity in the theory of the strong interaction at supranuclear densities. To this end, we follow the renormalization group (RG) flow of dense strong-interaction matter with two massless quark flavors from th e fundamental quark and gluon degrees of freedom at high energies down to the non-perturbative low-energy regime which is found to be governed by the dynamical formation of diquark states. With the strong coupling at the initial RG scale as the only input parameter, we compute the (chirally symmetric) scalar diquark condensate and analyze its scaling behavior over a wide range of the quark chemical potential. Approximations entering our computations are critically assessed. Since our approach naturally allows us to study the scale dependence of couplings, we also monitor the strength of couplings appearing in low-energy models of dense strong-interaction matter. The observed dependence of these couplings on the quark chemical potential may help to amend model studies in the future.

We analyze recent results of SU(3) lattice QCD calculations with a phenomenological parametrization for the quark-gluon plasma equation of state based on a quasi-particle picture with massive quarks and gluons. At high temperature we obtain a good fi t to the lattice data using perturbative thermal quark and gluon masses from an improved HTL scheme. At temperatures close to the confinement phase transition the fitted masses increase above the perturbative value, and a non-zero (but small) bag constant is required to fit the lattice data.
The present paper is based on the assumption that heavy quarks bound states exist in the Standard Model (SM). Considering New Bound States (NBS) of top-anti-top quarks (named T-balls) we have shown that: 1) there exists the scalar 1S--bound state of $6t+6bar t$; 2) the forces which bind the top-quarks are very strong and almost completely compensate the mass of the twelve top-anti-top-quarks in the scalar NBS; 3) such strong forces are produced by the Higgs-top-quarks interaction with a large value of the top-quark Yukawa coupling constant $g_tsimeq 1$. Theory also predicts the existence of the NBS $6t + 5bar t$, which is a color triplet and a fermion similar to the $t$-quark of the fourth generation. We have also considered the b-quark-replaced NBS, estimated the masses of the lightest fermionic NBS: $M_{NBS}gtrsim 300$ GeV, and discussed the larger masses of T-balls. We have developed a theory of the scalar T-balls condensate and predicted the existence of three SM phases. Searching for heavy quark bound states at the Tevatron and LHC is discussed. We have constructed the possible form-factors of T-balls, and estimated the charge multiplicity coming from the T-balls decays.

Bound state perturbation theory is well established for QED atoms. Today the hyperfine splitting of Positronium is known to $O(alpha^7logalpha)$. Whereas standard expansions of scattering amplitudes start from free states, bound states are expanded a round eigenstates of the Hamiltonian including a binding potential. The eigenstate wave functions have all powers of $alpha$, requiring a choice in the ordering of the perturbative expansion. Temporal $(A^0=0)$ gauge permits an expansion starting from valence Fock states, bound by their instantaneous gauge field. This formulation is applicable in any frame and seems promising even for hadrons in QCD. The $O(alpha_s^0)$ confining potential is determined (up to a universal scale) by a homogeneous solution of Gauss law.
