A Weyl semimetal is a new type of topological quantum phase with intriguing physics near the Weyl nodes. Although the equilibrium state of Weyl semimetals has been investigated, the ultrafast dynamics near the Weyl node in the nonequilibrium state is still missing. Here by performing time and angle resolved photoemission spectroscopy on type-II Weyl semimetal MoTe$_2$, we reveal the dispersion of the unoccupied states and identify the Weyl node at 70 meV above E$_F$. Moreover, by tracking the ultrafast relaxation dynamics near the Weyl node upon photo-excitation with energy, momentum and temporal resolution, two intrinsic recovery timescales are observed, a fast one of 430 fs and a slow one of 4.1 ps, which are associated with hot electron cooling by optical phonon cascade emission and anharmonic decay of hot optical phonons respectively. The electron population shows a metallic response, and the two temperature model fitting of the transient electronic temperature gives an electron-phonon coupling constant of $lambdalangleOmega^2ranglesimeq32$ $textrm{meV}^2$. Our work provides important dynamic information for understanding the relaxation mechanism of a Weyl semimetal and for exploiting potential applications using ultrafast optical control.

High resolution angle resolved photoemission measurements and band structure calculations are carried out to study the electronic structure of BaMnSb$_2$. All the observed bands are nearly linear that extend to a wide energy range. The measured Fermi surface mainly consists of one hole pocket around $Gamma$ and a strong spot at Y which are formed from the crossing points of the linear bands. The measured electronic structure of BaMnSb$_2$ is unusual and deviates strongly from the band structure calculations. These results will stimulate further efforts to theoretically understand the electronic structure of BaMnSb$_2$ and search for novel properties in this Dirac material.
We combined a spin-resolved photoemission spectrometer with a high-harmonic generation (HHG) laser source in order to perform spin-, time- and angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (STARPES) experiments on the transition metal dichalcogenide bulk WTe$_2$, a possible Weyl type-II semimetal. Measurements at different femtosecond pump-probe delays and comparison with spin-resolved one-step photoemission calculations provide insight into the spin polarization of electrons above the Fermi level in the region where Weyl points of WTe$_2$ are expected. We observe a spin accumulation above the Weyl points region, that is consistent with a spin-selective bottleneck effect due to the presence of spin polarized cone-like electronic structure. Our results support the feasibility of STARPES with HHG, which despite being experimentally challenging provides a unique way to study spin dynamics in photoemission.
$mathrm{MoTe_2}$ has recently been shown to realize in its low-temperature phase the type-II Weyl semimetal (WSM). We investigated by time- and angle- resolved photoelectron spectroscopy (tr-ARPES) the possible influence of the Weyl points in the ele ctron dynamics above the Fermi level $mathrm{E_F}$, by comparing the ultrafast response of $mathrm{MoTe_2}$ in the trivial and topological phases. In the low-temperature WSM phase, we report an enhanced relaxation rate of electrons optically excited to the conduction band, which we interpret as a fingerprint of the local gap closure when Weyl points form. By contrast, we find that the electron dynamics of the related compound $mathrm{WTe_2}$ is slower and temperature-independent, consistent with a topologically trivial nature of this material. Our results shows that tr-ARPES is sensitive to the small modifications of the unoccupied band structure accompanying the structural and topological phase transition of $mathrm{MoTe_2}$.

Electronic structures of single crystalline black phosphorus were studied by state-of-art angleresolved photoemission spectroscopy. Through high resolution photon energy dependence measurements, the band dispersions along out-of-plane and in-plane di rections are experimentally determined. The electrons were found to be more localized in the ab-plane than that is predicted in calculations. Beside the kz-dispersive bulk bands, resonant surface state is also observed in the momentum space. Our finds strongly suggest that more details need to be considered to fully understand the electronic properties of black phosphorus theoretically.
