Whereas there exists considerable evidence for the conversion of singlet Cooper pairs into triplet Cooper pairs in the presence of inhomogeneous magnetic fields, recent theoretical proposals have suggested an alternative way to exert control over triplet generation: intrinsic spin-orbit coupling in a homogeneous ferromagnet coupled to a superconductor. Here, we proximity-couple Nb to an asymmetric Pt/Co/Pt trilayer, which acts as an effective spin-orbit coupled ferromagnet owing to structural inversion asymmetry. Unconventional modulation of the superconducting critical temperature as a function of in-plane and out-of- plane applied magnetic fields suggests the presence of triplets that can be controlled by the magnetic orientation of a single homogeneous ferromagnet. Our studies demonstrate for the first time an active role of spin-orbit coupling in controlling the triplets -- an important step towards the realization of novel superconducting spintronic devices.

In this work we aim to analyze the effect of a strong antisymmetric spin-orbit coupling (ASOC) on superconductivity of noncentrosymmetric LaPtSi. We study the energy gap structure of polycrystalline LaPtSi by using magnetic penetration depth measurem ents down to 0.02$T_c$. We observed a dirty s-wave behavior, which provides compelling evidence that the spin-singlet component of the mixed pairing state is highly dominant. This is consistent with previous results in the sense that the mere presence of a strong ASOC does not lead to unconventional behaviors. Our result also downplays LaPtSi as a good candidate for realizing time-reversal invariant topological superconductivity.
In most magnetically-ordered iron pnictides, the magnetic moments lie in the FeAs planes, parallel to the modulation direction of the spin stripes. However, recent experiments in hole-doped iron pnictides have observed a reorientation of the magnetic moments from in-plane to out-of-plane. Interestingly, this reorientation is accompanied by a change in the magnetic ground state from a stripe antiferromagnet to a tetragonal non-uniform magnetic configuration. Motivated by these recent observations, here we investigate the origin of the spin anisotropy in iron pnictides using an itinerant microscopic electronic model that respects all the symmetry properties of a single FeAs plane. We find that the interplay between the spin-orbit coupling and the Hunds rule coupling can account for the observed spin anisotropies, including the spin reorientation in hole-doped pnictides, without the need to invoke orbital or nematic order. Our calculations also reveal an asymmetry between the magnetic ground states of electron- and hole-doped compounds, with only the latter displaying tetragonal magnetic states.
We have examined the intrinsic spin-orbit coupling (SOC) and orbital depairing in thin films of Nb-doped SrTiO$_3$ by superconducting tunneling spectroscopy. The orbital depairing is geometrically suppressed in the two-dimensional limit, enabling a q uantitative evaluation of the Fermi level spin-orbit scattering using Makis theory. The response of the superconducting gap under in-plane magnetic fields demonstrates short spin-orbit scattering times $tau_{so} leq 1.1$ ps. Analysis of the orbital depairing indicates that the heavy electron band contributes significantly to pairing. These results suggest that the intrinsic spin-orbit scattering time in SrTiO$_3$ is comparable to those associated with Rashba effects in SrTiO$_3$ interfacial conducting layers and can be considered significant in all forms of superconductivity in SrTiO$_3$.
Motivated by the recent findings of unconventional superconductivity in $mathrm{CoSi_2 / TiSi_2}$ heterostructures, we study the effect of interface induced Rashba spin orbit coupling on the conductance of a three terminal T shape superconducting dev ice. We calculate the differential conductance for this device within the quasi-classical formalism that includes the mixing of triplet-singlet pairing due to the Rashba spin orbit coupling. We discuss our result in the light of the conductance spectra reported by Chiu {it et al.} for $mathrm{CoSi_2 / TiSi_2}$ heterostructures.
We study the spin resonance peak in recently discovered iron-based superconductors. The resonance peak observed in inelastic neutron scattering experiments agrees well with predicted results for the extended $s$-wave ($s_pm$) gap symmetry. Recent neu tron scattering measurements show that there is a disparity between longitudinal and transverse components of the dynamical spin susceptibility. Such breaking of the spin-rotational invariance in the spin-liquid phase can occur due to spin-orbit coupling. We study the role of the spin-orbit interaction in the multiorbital model for Fe-pnictides and show how it affects the spin resonance feature.
