We present experimental and numerical data on the supercontinuum generation in an optical fiber pumped in the normal dispersion range where the seeded dark and the spontaneously generated bright solitons contribute to the spectral broadening. We report the dispersive radiation arising from the interaction of the bright and dark solitons. This radiation consists of the two weak dispersing pulses that continuously shift their frequencies and shape the short and long wavelength wings of the supercontinuum spectrum.

Numerical simulations are used to study how fiber supercontinuum generation seeded by picosecond pulses can be actively controlled through the use of input pulse modulation. By carrying out multiple simulations in the presence of noise, we show how t ailored supercontinuum Spectra with increased bandwidth and improved stability can be generated using an input envelope modulation of appropriate frequency and depth. The results are discussed in terms of the non-linear propagation dynamics and pump depletion.

We have experimentally investigated the soliton interaction in a passively mode-locked fiber ring laser and revealed the existence of three types of strong soliton interaction: a global type of soliton interaction caused by the existence of unstable CW components; a local type of soliton interaction mediated through the radiative dispersive waves; and the direct soliton interaction. We found that the appearance of the various soliton operation modes observed in the passively mode locked fiber soliton lasers are the direct consequences of these three types of soliton interaction. The soliton interaction in the laser is further numerically simulated based on a pulse tracing technique. The numerical simulations confirmed the existence of the dispersive wave mediated soliton interaction and the direct soliton interaction. Furthermore, it was shown that the resonant dispersive waves mediated soliton interaction in the laser always has the consequence of causing random irregular relative soliton movement, and the experimentally observed states of bound solitons are caused by the direct soliton interaction. In particular, as the solitons generated in the laser could have a profile with long tails, the direct soliton interaction could extend to a soliton separation that is larger than 5 times of the soliton pulse width.
In the present work, we develop an adiabatic invariant approach for the evolution of quasi-one-dimensional (stripe) solitons embedded in a two-dimensional Bose-Einstein condensate. The results of the theory are obtained both for the one-component cas e of dark soliton stripes, as well as for the considerably more involved case of the two-component dark-bright (alias filled dark) soliton stripes. In both cases, analytical predictions regarding the stability and dynamics of these structures are obtained. One of our main findings is the determination of the instability modes of the waves as a function of the parameters of the system (such as the trap strength and the chemical potential). Our analytical predictions are favorably compared with results of direct numerical simulations.
We analyze temporal and spectral characteristics of Akhmediev breather and establish amplification and transmission of attenuated multi-soliton in nonlinear optical fiber. Our results show that the attenuated multi-soliton can be converted into Akhme diev breather through a judicious modulation of the spectrum. Subsequently, the maximally compressed pulse train of Akhmediev breather can be used to establish a robust breathing transmission by another spectrum modulation. In addition, the influence of the spectral modulation intensity on the excitation of Akhmediev breather and transmission of maximally compressed pulse train are also discussed.
The recent discovery of dissipative Kerr solitons in microresonators has facilitated the development of fully coherent, chip-scale frequency combs. In addition, dark soliton pulses have been observed in microresonators in the normal dispersion regime . Here, we report bound states of mutually trapped dark-bright soliton pairs in a microresonator. The soliton pairs are generated seeding two modes with opposite dispersion but with similar group velocities. One laser operating in the anomalous dispersion regime generates a bright soliton microcomb, while the other laser in the normal dispersion regime creates a dark soliton via Kerr-induced cross-phase modulation with the bright soliton. Numerical simulations agree well with experimental results and reveal a novel mechanism to generate dark soliton pulses. The trapping of dark and bright solitons can lead to light states with the intriguing property of constant output power while spectrally resembling a frequency comb. These results can be of interest for telecommunication systems, frequency comb applications, ultrafast optics and soliton states in atomic physics.
