Compton scattering off the proton in the third resonance region is analyzed for the first time, owing to the full combined analysis of pion- and photo-induced reactions in a coupled-channel effective Lagrangian model with K-matrix approximation. Two isospin $I=3/2$ resonances $D_{33}(1700)$ and $F_{35}(1930)$ are found to be essential in the range of 1.6 - 1.8 GeV. The recent beam asymmetry data of Compton scattering from the GRAAL facility are used to determine the helicity couplings of these resonances, and strong constraints are coming also from $pi N$ and $KSigma$ photoproduction data. The possible spin and parity of new narrow resonances is discussed.

We investigate the spin-independent part of the virtual Compton scattering (VCS) amplitude off the nucleon within the framework of chiral perturbation theory. We perform a consistent calculation to third order in external momenta according to Weinber gs power counting. With this calculation we can determine the second- and fourth-order structure-dependent coefficients of the general low-energy expansion of the spin-averaged VCS amplitude based on gauge invariance, crossing symmetry and the discrete symmetries. We discuss the kinematical regime to which our calculation can be applied and compare our expansion with the multipole expansion by Guichon, Liu and Thomas. We establish the connection of our calculation with the generalized polarizabilities of the nucleon where it is possible.
The unpolarized and polarized Beam Char-ge Asymmetries (BCAs) of the $vv{e}^{pm}p to e^{pm}p gamma$ process off unpolarized hydrogen are discussed. The measurement of BCAs with the CLAS12 spectrometer at the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Faci lity, using polarized positron and electron beams at 10.6 GeV is investigated. This experimental configuration allows to measure azimuthal and $t$-dependences of the unpolarized and polarized BCAs over a large $(x_B,Q^2)$ phase space, providing a direct access to the real part of the Compton Form Factor (CFF) ${mathcal H}$. Additionally, these measurements confront the Bethe-Heitler dominance hypothesis and eventual effects beyond leading twist. The impact of potential positron beam data on the determination of CFFs is also investigated within a local fitting approach of experimental observables. Positron data are shown to strongly reduce correlations between CFFs and consequently improve significantly the determination of $Re {rm e} [mathcal{H}]$.
We report on new measurements of the electric Generalized Polarizability (GP) of the proton $alpha_E$ in a kinematic region where a puzzling dependence on momentum transfer has been observed, and we have found that $alpha_E = (5.3 pm 0.6_{stat} pm 1. 3_{sys})~10^{-4} fm^3$ at $Q^2=0.20~(GeV/c)^2$. The new measurements, when considered along with the rest of the world data, suggest that $alpha_E$ can be described by either a local plateau or by an enhancement in the region $Q^2=0.20~(GeV/c)^2$ to $0.33~(GeV/c)^2$. The experiment also provides the first measurement of the Coulomb quadrupole amplitude in the $N rightarrow Delta$ transition through the exploration of the $p(e,ep)gamma$ reaction. The new measurement gives $CMR = (-4.4 pm 0.8_{stat} pm 0.6_{sys})~%$ at $Q^2=0.20~(GeV/c)^2$ and is consistent with the results from the pion electroproduction world data. It has been obtained using a completely different extraction method, and therefore represents a strong validation test of the world data model uncertainties.
We have examined the spin structure of the proton in the region of the nucleon resonances (1.085 GeV < W < 1.910 GeV) at an average four momentum transfer of Q^2 = 1.3 GeV^2. Using the Jefferson Lab polarized electron beam, a spectrometer, and a pola rized solid target, we measured the asymmetries A_parallel and A_perp to high precision, and extracted the asymmetries A_1 and A_2, and the spin structure functions g_1 and g_2. We found a notably non-zero A_perp, significant contributions from higher-twist effects, and only weak support for polarized quark--hadron duality.

We present a unified relativistic approach to inclusive electron scattering based on the relativistic Fermi gas model and on a phenomenological extension of it which accounts for the superscaling behaviour of $(e,e)$ data. We present results in the $ Delta$ resonance region and in the highly inelastic domain and show some application to neutrino scattering.
