The quantum phase transition between two clean, non interacting topologically distinct gapped states in three dimensions is governed by a massless Dirac fermion fixed point, irrespective of the underlying symmetry class, and this constitutes a remarkably simple example of superuniversality. For a sufficiently weak disorder strength, we show that the massless Dirac fixed point is at the heart of the robustness of superuniversality. We establish this by considering both perturbative and nonperturbative effects of disorder. The superuniversality breaks down at a critical strength of disorder, beyond which the topologically distinct localized phases become separated by a delocalized diffusive phase. In the global phase diagram, the disorder controlled fixed point where superuniversality is lost, serves as a multicritical point, where the delocalized diffusive and two topologically distinct localized phases meet and the nature of the localization-delocalization transition depends on the underlying symmetry class. Based on these features we construct the global phase diagrams of noninteracting, dirty topological systems in three dimensions. We also establish a similar structure of the phase diagram and the superuniversality for weak disorder in higher spatial dimensions. By noting that $1/r^2$ power-law correlated disorder acts as a marginal perturbation for massless Dirac fermion in any spatial dimension $d$, we have established a general renormalization group framework for addressing disorder driven critical phenomena for fixed spatial dimension $d > 2$.

A higher-order topological insulator is a new concept of topological states of matter, which is characterized by the emergent boundary states whose dimensionality is lower by more than two compared with that of the bulk, and draws a considerable inte rest. Yet, its robustness against disorders is still unclear. Here we investigate a phase diagram of higher-order topological insulator phases in a breathing kagome model in the presence of disorders, by using a state-of-the-art machine learning technique. We find that the corner states survive against the finite strength of disorder potential as long as the energy gap is not closed, indicating the stability of the higher-order topological phases against the disorders.

We study the magnetic proximity effect on a two-dimensional topological insulator in a CrI$_3$/SnI$_3$/CrI$_3$ trilayer structure. From first-principles calculations, the BiI$_3$-type SnI$_3$ monolayer without spin-orbit coupling has Dirac cones at t he corners of the hexagonal Brillouin zone. With spin-orbit coupling turned on, it becomes a topological insulator, as revealed by a non-vanishing $Z_2$ invariant and an effective model from symmetry considerations. Without spin-orbit coupling, the Dirac points are protected if the CrI$_3$ layers are stacked ferromagnetically, and are gapped if the CrI$_3$ layers are stacked antiferromagnetically, which can be explained by the irreducible representations of the magnetic space groups $C_{3i}^1$ and $C_{3i}^1(C_3^1)$, corresponding to ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic stacking, respectively. By analyzing the effective model including the perturbations, we find that the competition between the magnetic proximity effect and spin-orbit coupling leads to a topological phase transition between a trivial insulator and a topological insulator.
We study the phase transition of the $pm J$ Heisenberg model in three dimensions. Using a dynamical simulation method that removes a drift of the system, the existence of the spin-glass (SG) phase at low temperatures is suggested. The transition temp erature is estimated to be $T_{rm SG} sim 0.18J$ from both equilibrium and off-equilibrium Monte-Carlo simulations. Our result contradicts the chirality mechanism of the phase transition reported recently by Kawamura which claims that it is not the spins but the chiralities of the spins that are ordered in Heisenberg SG systems.

The puzzle of recently observed insulating phase of graphene at filling factor $ u=0$ in high magnetic field quantum Hall (QH) experiments is investigated. We show that the magnetic field driven Peierls-type lattice distortion (due to the Landau leve l degeneracy) and random bond fluctuations compete with each other, resulting in a transition from a QH-metal state at relative low field to a QH-insulator state at high enough field at $ u=0$. The critical field that separates QH-metal from QH-insulator depends on the bond fluctuation. The picture explains well why the field required for observing the insulating phase is lower for a cleaner sample.
