Magnetic skyrmion motion induced by an electric current has drawn much interest because of its application potential in next-generation magnetic memory devices. Recently, unidirectional skyrmion motion driven by an oscillating magnetic field was also demonstrated on large (20 micrometer) bubble domains with skyrmion topology. At smaller length scale which is more relevant to high-density memory devices, we here show by numerical simulation that a skyrmion of a few tens of nanometers could also be driven by high-frequency field oscillations but with the motion direction different from the tilted oscillating field direction. We found that high-frequency field for small size skyrmions could excite skyrmion resonant modes and that a combination of different modes would result in the final skyrmion motion with a helical trajectory. Because this helical motion depends on the frequency of the field, we can control both the speed and the direction of the skyrmion motion, which is a distinguishable characteristic compared with other methods.

Magnetic skyrmions are topologically protected spin textures, stabilised in systems with strong Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction (DMI). Several studies have shown that electrical currents can move skyrmions efficiently through spin-orbit torques. Wh ile promising for technological applications, current-driven skyrmion motion is intrinsically collective and accompanied by undesired heating effects. Here we demonstrate a new approach to control individual skyrmion positions precisely, which relies on the magnetic interaction between sample and a magnetic force microscopy (MFM) probe. We investigate perpendicularly magnetised X/CoFeB/MgO multilayers, where for X = W or Pt the DMI is sufficiently strong to allow for skyrmion nucleation in an applied field. We show that these skyrmions can be manipulated individually through the local field gradient generated by the scanning MFM probe with an unprecedented level of accuracy. Furthermore, we show that the probe stray field can assist skyrmion nucleation. Our proof-of-concepts results offer current-free paradigms to efficient individual skyrmion control.
Control of magnetic domain wall motion by electric fields has recently attracted scientific attention because of its potential for magnetic logic and memory devices. Here, we report on a new driving mechanism that allows for magnetic domain wall moti on in an applied electric field without the concurrent use of a magnetic field or spin-polarized electric current. The mechanism is based on elastic coupling between magnetic and ferroelectric domain walls in multiferroic heterostructures. Pure electric-field driven magnetic domain wall motion is demonstrated for epitaxial Fe films on BaTiO$_3$ with in-plane and out-of-plane polarized domains. In this system, magnetic domain wall motion is fully reversible and the velocity of the walls varies exponentially as a function of out-of-plane electric field strength.
We have investigated an analytic formula of the 1-dimensional magnetic skyrmion dynamics under external magnetic field gradient. We find excellent agreement between the analytical model and micromagnetic simulation results for various magnetic parame ters such as the magnetic field gradient, Gilbert damping constant. We also observe much faster velocity of the chiral domain wall (DW) motion. The chiral DW is exist with smaller interfacial Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction energy density cases. These results provide to develop efficient control of skyrmion for spintronic devices.
Quantization of topological charges determines the various topological spin textures that are expected to play a key role in future spintronic devices. While the magnetic skyrmion with a unit topological charge Q has been extensively studied, spin te xtures with other integer valued have not been verified well so far. Here, we report the real-space image, creation, and manipulation of a type of multi Q three-dimensional skyrmionic texture, where a circular spin spiral ties a bunch of skyrmion tubes. We define these objects as skyrmion bundles, and show they have arbitrarily integer values Q from negative up to at least 55 in our experiment. These textures behave as quasiparticles in dynamics for the collective motions driven by electric pulses. Similar to the skyrmion, skyrmion bundles with non zero Q exhibit the skyrmion Hall effects with a Hall angle of 62 degree. Of particular interest, the skyrmion bundle with Q = 0 propagates collinearly with respect to the current flow without the skyrmion Hall effect. Our results open a new perspective for possible applications of multi Q magnetic objects in future spintronic devices.
The dynamic observation of domain wall motion induced by electric field in magnetoelectric iron garnet film is reported. Measurements in 800 kV/cm electric field pulses gave the domain wall velocity ~45 m/s. Similar velocity was achieved in magnetic field pulse about 50 Oe. Reversible and irreversible micromagnetic structure transformation is demonstrated. These effects are promising for applications in spintronics and magnetic memory.
