BiCh2-based superconductors (Ch: S, Se) are a new series of layered superconductor. However, mechanisms for the emergence of superconductivity in BiCh2-based superconductors have not been clarified. In this study, we have investigated crystal structure of two series of optimally-doped BiCh2-based superconductors, Ce1-xNdxO0.5F0.5BiS2 and LaO0.5F0.5Bi(S1-ySey)2, using powder synchrotron x-ray diffraction in order to reveal the relationship between crystal structure and superconducting properties of the BiCh2-based family. We have found that an enhancement of in-plane chemical pressure would commonly induce bulk superconductivity in both systems. Furthermore, we have revealed that superconducting transition temperature for REO0.5F0.5BiCh2 superconductors could universally be determined by degree of in-plane chemical pressure.

We have investigated the in-plane anisotropy of the c-axis magnetoresistance (MR) in both superconducting and normal states of single crystals of NdO0.7F0.3BiS2 under in-plane magnetic fields. In the superconducting states of NdO0.7F0.3BiS2, four-fol d-symmetric in-plane anisotropy of the c-axis MR was observed below the superconducting transition temperature. Since the crystal structure of NdO0.7F0.3BiS2 is tetragonal, the rotational symmetry in the superconducting state is preserved in the present compound. This result is clearly different from the previous report observed in LaO0.5F0.5BiSSe single crystals, where the in-plane MR in the superconducting state shows two-fold symmetry. On the other hand, in the normal states of NdO0.7F0.3BiS2, two-fold symmetric MR with a small amplitude was observed. The possible origin of the two-fold-symmetric behavior was discussed with the presence of local structural disorder in the conducting plane of BiCh2-based compounds.
We report the Se substitution effects on the crystal structure, superconducting properties, and valence states of self-doped BiCh2-based compound CeOBiS2-xSex. Polycrystalline CeOBiS2-xSex samples with x = 0-1.0 were synthesized. For x = 0.4 and 0.6, bulk superconducting transitions with a large shielding volume fraction were observed in magnetic susceptibility measurements; the highest transition temperature (Tc) was 3.0 K for x = 0.6. A superconductivity phase diagram of CeOBiS2-xSex was established based on Tc estimated from the electrical resistivity and magnetization measurements. The emergence of superconductivity in CeOBiS2-xSex was explained with two essential parameters of in-plane chemical pressure and carrier concentration, which systematically changed with increasing Se concentration.

X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) and high resolution X-ray diffraction are combined to study the interplay between electronic and lattice structures in controlling the superconductivity in cuprates with a model charge-compensated CaxLa1-xBa1.75-xL a0.25+xCu3Oy (0<x<0.5, y=7.13) system. In spite of a large change in Tc, the doped holes, determined by the Cu L and O K XAS, hardly show any variation with the x. On the other hand, the CuO2 plaquette size shows a systematic change due to different size of substituted cations. The results provide a direct evidence for the chemical pressure being a key parameter for controlling the superconducting ground state of the cuprates.
We have investigated Se substitution effect to superconductivity of an optimally-doped BiS2-based superconductor Eu0.5La0.5FBiS2. Eu0.5La0.5FBiS2-xSex samples with x = 0-1 were synthesized. With increasing x, in-plane chemical pressure is enhanced. F or x = 0.6, 0.8, and 1, superconducting transitions with a large shielding volume fraction are observed in magnetic susceptibility measurements, and the highest Tc is 3.8 K for x = 0.8. From low-temperature electrical resistivity measurements, a zero-resistivity state is observed for all the samples, and the highest Tc is observed for x = 0.8. With increasing Se concentration, characteristics of electrical resistivity changes from semiconducting-like to metallic, suggesting that the emergence of bulk superconductivity is linked with the enhanced metallicity. A superconductivity phase diagram of the Eu0.5La0.5FBiS2-xSex superconductor is established. Temperature dependences of electrical resistivity show an anomalous two-step transition under high magnetic fields. Hence, the resistivity data are analyzed with assuming in-plane anisotropy of upper critical field.

We report the pressure dependence of the superconducting transition temperature, $T_c$, in TlNi$_2$Se$_{2-x}$S$_x$ detected via the AC susceptibility method. The pressure-temperature phase diagram constructed for TlNi$_{2}$Se$_{2}$, TlNi$_{2}$S$_{2}$ and TlNi$_{2}$SeS exhibits two unexpected features: (a) a sudden collapse of the superconducting state at moderate pressure for all three compositions and (b) a dome-shaped pressure dependence of $T_c$ for TlNi$_{2}$SeS. These results point to the nontrivial role of S substitution and its subtle interplay with applied pressure, as well as novel superconducting properties of the TlNi$_2$Se$_{2-x}$S$_x$ system.
