Selective hysteretic heating of multiple collocated sets of single domain magnetic nanoparticles (SDMNPs) by alternating magnetic fields (AMFs) may offer a useful tool for biomedical applications. The possibility of magnetothermal multiplexing has not yet been realized, in part due to prevalent use of linear response theory to model SDMNP heating in AMFs. Predictive successes of dynamic hysteresis (DH), a more generalized model for heat dissipation by SDMNPs, are observed experimentally with detailed calorimetry measurements performed at varied AMF amplitudes and frequencies. The DH model suggests that specific driving conditions play an underappreciated role in determining optimal material selection strategies for high heat dissipation. Motivated by this observation, magnetothermal multiplexing is theoretically predicted and empirically demonstrated for the first time by selecting SDMNPs with properties that suggest optimal hysteretic heat dissipation at dissimilar AMF driving conditions. This form of multiplexing could effectively create multiple channels for minimally invasive biological signaling applications.

The manipulation of geometrically constrained magnetic domain walls (DWs) in nanoscale magnetic strips has attracted much interest recently, with proposals for prospective memory and logic devices. Here we propose to use the high controllability of t he motion of geometrically constrained DWs for the manipulation of individual nanoparticles on a chip with an active control of position at the nanometer scale. The proposed method exploits the fact that magnetic nanoparticles in solution can be captured by a DW, whose position can be manipulated with nanometric accuracy in a specifically designed magnetic nanowire structure. We show that the high control over DW nucleation, displacement, and annihilation processes in such structures can be used to capture, transport and release magnetic nanoparticles. As magnetic particles with functionalized surfaces are commonly used as molecule carriers or labels, the accurate control over the handling of the single magnetic nanoparticle is crucial for several applications including single molecule manipulation, separation, cells manipulation and biomagnetic sensing.
The numerous phenomenological equations used in the study of the behaviour of single-domain magnetic nanoparticles are described and some issues clarified by means of qualitative comparison. To enable a quantitative textit{application} of the model b ased on the Debye (exponential) relaxation and the torque driving the Larmor precession, we present analytical solutions for the steady states in presence of circularly and linearly polarized AC magnetic fields. Using the exact analytical solutions, we can confirm the insight that underlies Rosensweigs introduction of the chord susceptibility for an approximate calculation of the losses. As an important consequence, it can also explain experiments, where power dissipation for both fields were found to be identical in root mean square sense. We also find that this approximation provides satisfactory numerical accuracy only up to magnetic fields for which the argument of the Langevin function reaches the value 2.8.
Magnetic measurements have been performed on 40-nm sphere-like Fe3O4 nanoparticles using a Quantum Design vibrating sample magnetometer. Coating Fe3O4 nanoparticles with SiO2 effectively eliminates magnetic interparticle interactions so that the coer cive field HC in the hightemperature range between 300 K and the Curie temperature (855 K) can be well fitted by an expression for noninteracting randomly oriented single-domain particles. From the fitting parameters, the effective anisotropy constant K is found to be (1.68 pm 0.17) times 105 erg/cm3, which is slightly larger than the bulk magnetocrystalline anisotropy constant of 1.35 times 105 erg/cm3. Moreover, the inferred mean particle diameter from the fitting parameters is in quantitative agreement with that determined from transmission electron microscope. Such a quantitative agreement between data and theory suggests that the assemble of our SiO2-coated sphere-like Fe3O4 nanopartles represents a good system of noninteracting randomly-oriented single-domain particles.

Polarization, denoting the precession direction with respect to the background magnetization, is an intrinsic degree of freedom of spin wave. Using magnetic textures to control the spin wave polarization is fundamental and indispensable toward reprog rammable polarization-based magnonics. Here, we show that due to the intrinsic cubic anisotropy, a $90^circ$ antiferromagnetic domain wall naturally acts as a spin wave retarder (wave-plate). Moreover, for a $90^circ$ domain wall pair developed by introducing a second domain in a homogenous antiferromagnetic wire, the sign of retarding effect can be flipped by simply switching the direction of the intermediate domain. The intimate connection between rich states of magnetic domains and the spin wave polarization in cubic anisotropic systems, offers new possibilities in constructing purely magnetic logic devices.
Magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) exhibiting superparamagnetic properties might generate large magnetic dipole-dipole interaction with electron spins in organic semiconductors (OSECs). This concept could be considered analogous to the effect of hyperfine interaction (HFI). In order to investigate this model, Fe3O4 MNPs are used as a dopant for generating random hyperfine-like magnetic fields in a HFI-dominant {pi}-conjugated polymer host, poly(2-methoxy-5-(2-ethylhexyloxy)-1,4-phenylenevinylene) (MeH-PPV). The magnetoconductance (MC) response in organic light emitting diodes made by MeH-PPV/MNP blends is used to estimate the effective hyperfine field in the blends. Firstly, we find that the shape of the MC response essentially remains the same regardless of the MNP concentration, which is attributed to the similar functionality between the nuclear spins and the MNPs. Secondly, the width of MC increases with increasing MNP concentration. Magneto-optical Kerr effect experiments and micromagnetic simulation indicate that the additional increase of the MC width is associated with the strength of the magnetization of the blend. Finally, the MC broadening has the same temperature dependent trend as the magnetization of the MNPs where the unique effect of the MNPs in their superparamagnetic and ferromagnetic regimes on the MC response is observed. Magneto-photoinduced absorption (MPA) spectroscopy confirms that the MC broadening is not due to defects introduced by the MNPs, but is a result of unique superparamagnetic behavior. Our study yields a new pathway for tuning OSECs magnetic functionality, which is essential to organic optoelectronic devices and magnetic sensor applications.
