The problem of the derivation of hydrodynamics from the Boltzmann equation and related dissipative systems is formulated as the problem of slow invariant manifold in the space of distributions. We review a few instances where such hydrodynamic manifolds were found analytically both as the result of summation of the Chapman--Enskog asymptotic expansion and by the direct solution of the invariance equation. These model cases, comprising Grads moment systems, both linear and nonlinear, are studied in depth in order to gain understanding of what can be expected for the Boltzmann equation. Particularly, the dispersive dominance and saturation of dissipation rate of the exact hydrodynamics in the short-wave limit and the viscosity modification at high divergence of the flow velocity are indicated as severe obstacles to the resolution of Hilberts 6th Problem. Furthermore, we review the derivation of the approximate hydrodynamic manifold for the Boltzmann equation using Newtons iteration and avoiding smallness parameters, and compare this to the exact solutions. Additionally, we discuss the problem of projection of the Boltzmann equation onto the approximate hydrodynamic invariant manifold using entropy concepts. Finally, a set of hypotheses is put forward where we describe open questions and set a horizon for what can be derived exactly or proven about the hydrodynamic manifolds for the Boltzmann equation in the future.

For a stationary and axisymmetric spacetime, the vacuum Einstein field equations reduce to a single nonlinear PDE in two dimensions called the Ernst equation. By solving this equation with a {it Dirichlet} boundary condition imposed along the disk, N eugebauer and Meinel in the 1990s famously derived an explicit expression for the spacetime metric corresponding to the Bardeen-Wagoner uniformly rotating disk of dust. In this paper, we consider a similar boundary value problem for a rotating disk in which a {it Neumann} boundary condition is imposed along the disk instead of a Dirichlet condition. Using the integrable structure of the Ernst equation, we are able to reduce the problem to a Riemann-Hilbert problem on a genus one Riemann surface. By solving this Riemann-Hilbert problem in terms of theta functions, we obtain an explicit expression for the Ernst potential. Finally, a Riemann surface degeneration argument leads to an expression for the associated spacetime metric.

This paper contains a rigorous mathematical example of direct derivation of the system of Euler hydrodynamic equations from Hamiltonian equations for N point particle system as N tends to infinity. Direct means that the following standard tools are n ot used in the proof: stochastic dynamics, thermodynamics, Boltzmann kinetic equations, correlation functions approach by N. N. Bogolyubov.
The exact solution of a Cauchy problem related to a linear second-order difference equation with constant noncommutative coefficients is reported.
In this paper, we consider the scattering theory for acoustic-type equations on non-compact manifolds with a single flat end. Our main purpose is to show an existence result of non-scattering energies. Precisely, we show a Weyl-type lower bound for t he number of non-scattering energies. Usually a scattered wave occurs for every incident wave by the inhomogeneity of the media. However, there may exist suitable wavenumbers and patterns of incident waves such that the corresponding scattered wave vanishes. We call (the square of) this wavenumber a non-scattering energy in this paper. The problem of non-scattering energies can be reduced to a well-known interior transmission eigenvalues problem.
In this paper we study in a Hilbert space a homogeneous linear second order difference equation with nonconstant and noncommuting operator coefficients. We build its exact resolutive formula consisting in the explicit non-iterative expression of a ge neric term of the unknown sequence of vectors of the Hilbert space. Some non-trivial applications are reported with the aim of showing the usefulness and the broad applicability of our result.
