We propose a linear compression technique for the time interval distribution of photon pairs. Using a partially frequency-entangled two-photon (TP) state with appropriate mean time width, the compressed TP time interval width can be kept in the minimum limit set by the phase modulation, and is independent of its initial width. As a result of this effect, ultra-narrow TP time interval distribution can be compressed with relatively slow phase modulators to decrease the damage of the phase-instability arising from the phase modulation process.

Surface codes are among the best candidates to ensure the fault-tolerance of a quantum computer. In order to avoid the accumulation of errors during a computation, it is crucial to have at our disposal a fast decoding algorithm to quickly identify an d correct errors as soon as they occur. We propose a linear-time maximum likelihood decoder for surface codes over the quantum erasure channel. This decoding algorithm for dealing with qubit loss is optimal both in terms of performance and speed.
We present a new scheme for the compression of one-way quantum messages, in the setting of coherent entanglement assisted quantum communication. For this, we present a new technical tool that we call the convex split lemma, which is inspired by the c lassical compression schemes that use rejection sampling procedure. As a consequence, we show new bounds on the quantum communication cost of single-shot entanglement-assisted one-way quantum state redistribution task and for the sub-tasks quantum state splitting and quantum state merging. Our upper and lower bounds are tight up to a constant and hence stronger than previously known best bounds for above tasks. Our protocols use explicit quantum operations on the sides of Alice and Bob, which are different from the decoupling by random unitaries approach used in previous works. As another application, we present a port-based teleportation scheme which works when the set of input states is restricted to a known ensemble, hence potentially saving the number of required ports. Furthermore, in case of no prior knowledge about the set of input states, our average success fidelity matches the known average success fidelity, providing a new port-based teleportation scheme with similar performance as appears in literature.

The quantum entropy-typical subspace theory is specified. It is shown that any mixed state with von Neumann entropy less than h can be preserved approximately by the entropy-typical subspace with entropy= h. This result implies an universal compressi on scheme for the case that the von Neumann entropy of the source does not exceed h.
In this work, we investigate information freshness in a status update communication system consisting of a source-destination link. Initially, we study the properties of a sample path of the age of information (AoI) process at the destination. We obt ain a general formula of the stationary distribution of the AoI, under the assumption of ergodicity. We relate this result to a discrete time queueing system and provide a general expression of the generating function of AoI in relation with the system time and the peak age of information (PAoI) metric. Furthermore, we consider three different single-server system models and we obtain closed-form expressions of the generating functions and the stationary distributions of the AoI and the PAoI. The first model is a first-come-first-served (FCFS) queue, the second model is a preemptive last-come-first-served (LCFS) queue, and the last model is a bufferless system with packet dropping. We build upon these results to provide a methodology for analyzing general non-linear age functions for this type of systems, using representations of functions as power series.
We calculate numerically the capacity of a lossy photon channel assuming photon number resolving detection at the output. We consider scenarios of input Fock and coherent states ensembles and show that the latter always exhibits worse performance tha n the former. We obtain capacity of a discrete-time Poisson channel as a limiting behavior of the Fock states ensemble capacity. We show also that in the regime of a moderate number of photons and low losses the Fock states ensemble with direct detection is beneficial with respect to capacity limits achievable with quadrature detection.
