The reformulated coupled-cluster method (CCM), in which average many-body potentials are introduced, provides a useful framework to organize numerous terms appearing in CCM equations, which enables us to clarify the structure of the CCM theory and physical importance of various terms more easily. We explicitly apply this framework to $^4$He, retaining one-body and two-body correlations as the first illustrating attempt. Numerical results with using two modern nucleon-nucleon interactions (AV18 and CD-Bonn) and their low-momentum interactions are presented. The characters of short-range and many-body correlations are discussed. Although not considered explicitly, the expression of the ground-state energy in the presence of a three-nucleon force is given.

We demonstrate the capability of coupled-cluster theory to compute the Coulomb sum rule for the $^4$He and $^{16}$O nuclei using interactions from chiral effective field theory. We perform several checks, including a few-body benchmark for $^4$He. We provide an analysis of the center-of-mass contaminations, which we are able to safely remove. We then compare with other theoretical results and experimental data available in the literature, obtaining a fair agreement. This is a first and necessary step towards initiating a program for computing neutrino-nucleus interactions from first principles and supporting the experimental long-baseline neutrino program with a state-of-the-art theory that can reach medium-mass nuclei.
Four light-mass nuclei are considered by an effective two-body clusterisation method; $^6$Li as $^2$H$+^4$He, $^7$Li as $^3$H$+^4$He, $^7$Be as $^3$He$+^4$He, and $^8$Be as $^4$He$+^4$He. The low-energy spectrum of each is determined from single-chan nel Lippmann-Schwinger equations, as are low-energy elastic scattering cross sections for the $^2$H$+^4$He system. These are presented at many angles and energies for which there are data. While some of these systems may be more fully described by many-body theories, this work establishes that a large amount of data may be explained by these two-body clusterisations.
We study the nuclear ground-state properties by using the unitary-model-operator approach (UMOA). Recently, the particle-basis formalism has been introduced in the UMOA and enables us to employ the charge-dependent nucleon-nucleon interaction. We eva luate the ground-state energies and charge radii of $^{4}$He, $^{16}$O, $^{40}$Ca, and $^{56}$Ni with the charge-dependent Bonn potential. The ground-state energy is dominated by the contributions from the one- and two-body cluster terms, while, for the radius, the one-particle-one-hole excitations are more important than the two-particle-two-hole excitations. The calculated results reproduce the trend of experimental data of the saturation property for finite nuclei.
Antiproton scattering off $^3He$ and $^4He$ targets is considered at beam energies below 300 MeV within the Glauber-Sitenko approach, utilizing the $bar N N$ amplitudes of the Julich model as input. A good agreement with available data on differentia l $bar p ^4He$ cross sections and on $bar p ^3He$ and $pbar ^4He$ reaction cross sections is obtained. Predictions for polarized total $bar p ^3$He cross sections are presented, calculated within the single-scattering approximation and including Coulomb-nuclear interference effects. The kinetics of the polarization buildup is discussed.
The Borromean $^6$He nucleus is an exotic system characterized by two `halo neutrons orbiting around a compact $^4$He (or $alpha$) core, in which the binary subsystems are unbound. The simultaneous reproduction of its small binding energy and extende d matter and point-proton radii has been a challenge for {em ab initio} theoretical calculations based on traditional bound-state methods. Using soft nucleon-nucleon interactions based on chiral effective field theory potentials, we show that supplementing the model space with $^4$He+$n$+$n$ cluster degrees of freedom largely solves this issue. We analyze the role played by the $alpha$-clustering and many-body correlations, and study the dependence of the energy spectrum on the resolution scale of the interaction.
