A symplectic, symmetric, second-order scheme is constructed for particle evolution in a time-dependent field with a fixed spatial step. The scheme is implemented in one space dimension and tested, showing excellent adequacy to experiment analysis.

The chaotic diffusion for particles moving in a time dependent potential well is described by using two different procedures: (i) via direct evolution of the mapping describing the dynamics and ; (ii) by the solution of the diffusion equation. The dy namic of the diffusing particles is made by the use of a two dimensional, nonlinear area preserving map for the variables energy and time. The phase space of the system is mixed containing both chaos, periodic regions and invariant spanning curves limiting the diffusion of the chaotic particles. The chaotic evolution for an ensemble of particles is treated as random particles motion and hence described by the diffusion equation. The boundary conditions impose that the particles can not cross the invariant spanning curves, serving as upper boundary for the diffusion, nor the lowest energy domain that is the energy the particles escape from the time moving potential well. The diffusion coefficient is determined via the equation of the mapping while the analytical solution of the diffusion equation gives the probability to find a given particle with a certain energy at a specific time. The momenta of the probability describe qualitatively the behavior of the average energy obtained by numerical simulation, which is investigated either as a function of the time as well as some of the control parameters of the problem.

A model for the simulation of orientational effects in straight and bent periodic atomic structures is presented. The continuum potential approximation has been adopted. The model allows the manipulation of particle trajectories by means of straight a nd bent crystals and the scaling of the cross sections of hadronic and electromagnetic processes for channeled particles. Based on such a model, an extension of the Geant4 toolkit has been developed. The code has been validated against data from channeling experiments carried out at CERN.
We develop a resource efficient step-merged quantum imaginary time evolution approach (smQITE) to solve for the ground state of a Hamiltonian on quantum computers. This heuristic method features a fixed shallow quantum circuit depth along the state e volution path. We use this algorithm to determine binding energy curves of a set of molecules, including H$_2$, H$_4$, H$_6$, LiH, HF, H$_2$O and BeH$_2$, and find highly accurate results. The required quantum resources of smQITE calculations can be further reduced by adopting the circuit form of the variational quantum eigensolver (VQE) technique, such as the unitary coupled cluster ansatz. We demonstrate that smQITE achieves a similar computational accuracy as VQE at the same fixed-circuit ansatz, without requiring a generally complicated high-dimensional non-convex optimization. Finally, smQITE calculations are carried out on Rigetti quantum processing units (QPUs), demonstrating that the approach is readily applicable on current noisy intermediate-scale quantum (NISQ) devices.

It is known that Lorentz covariance fixes uniquely the current and the associated guidance law in the trajectory interpretation of quantum mechanics for spin-1/2 particles. In the nonrelativistic domain this implies a guidance law for electrons which differs by an additional spin-dependent term from the one originally proposed by de Broglie and Bohm. Although the additional term in the guidance equation may not be detectable in the quantum measurements derived solely from the probability density $rho$, it plays a role in the case of arrival-time measurements. In this paper we compute the arrival time distribution and the mean arrival time at a given location, with and without the spin contribution, for two problems: 1) a symmetrical Gaussian packet in a uniform field and 2) a symmetrical Gaussian packet passing through a 1D barrier. Using the Runge-Kutta method for integration of the guidance law, Bohmian paths of these problems are also computed.
We study the decay rate of the Loschmidt echo or fidelity in a chaotic system under a time-dependent perturbation $V(q,t)$ with typical strength $hbar/tau_{V}$. The perturbation represents the action of an uncontrolled environment interacting with th e system, and is characterized by a correlation length $xi_0$ and a correlation time $tau_0$. For small perturbation strengths or rapid fluctuating perturbations, the Loschmidt echo decays exponentially with a rate predicted by the Fermi Golden Rule, $1/tilde{tau}= tau_{c}/tau_{V}^2$, where typically $tau_{c} sim min[tau_{0},xi_0/v]$ with $v$ the particle velocity. Whenever the rate $1/tilde{tau}$ is larger than the Lyapunov exponent of the system, a perturbation independent Lyapunov decay regime arises. We also find that by speeding up the fluctuations (while keeping the perturbation strength fixed) the fidelity decay becomes slower, and hence, one can protect the system against decoherence.
