We fabricated a readout ASIC with the fully depleted silicon-on-insulator (FD-SOI) technology for the pair-monitor. The pair-monitor is a silicon pixel device that measures the beam profile of the international linear collider. It utilizes the directional distribution of a large number of electron-positron pairs created by collision of bunches, and is required to tolerate radiation dose of about a few Mrad/year. The irradiation might cause the buried oxide layer of SOI to accumulate charges which interfere with intended functions. We thus performed extensive irradiation tests on the prototype ASIC, and the results are described in this paper.

One of candidates for the International Linear Collider(ILC)s vertex detector is the Fine Pixel CCD (FPCCD) with a pixel size of 5 times 5 (mum^2). Sensor and readout systems are currently being studied and prototypes have been developed. In this pap er we will report on the performance of latest developed readout ASIC prototype as well as the outline of the design strategy for the next ASIC prototype.
The present article introduces a novel ASIC architecture, designed in the context of the ATLAS Tile Calorimeter upgrade program for the High-Luminosity phase of the Large Hadron Collider at CERN. The architecture is based on radiation-tolerant 130 nm Complementary Metal-Oxide-Semiconductor technology, embedding both analog and digital processing of detector signals. A detailed description of the ASIC is given in terms of motivation, design characteristics and simulated and measured performance. Experimental studies, based on 24 prototype units under real particle beam conditions are also presented in order to demonstrate the potential of the architecture as a reliable front-end readout electronic solution.

In order to further enhance the particle identification capability of the Beijing Spectrometer (BESIII), it is proposed to upgrade the current end-cap time-of-flight (eTOF) detector with multi-gap resistive plate chamber (MRPC). The prototypes, toget her with the front end electronics (FEE) and time digitizer (TDIG) module have been tested at the E3 line of Beijing Electron Positron Collider (BEPCII) to study the difference between the single and double-end readout MRPC designs. The time resolutions (sigma) of the single-end readout MRPC are 47/53 ps obtained by 600 MeV/c proton/pion beam, while that of the double-end readout MRPC is 40 ps (proton beam). The efficiencies of three MRPC modules tested by both proton and pion beam are better than 98%. For the double-end readout MRPC, no incident position dependence is observed.
To study an alternative to BaF2, as the crystal choice for the Mu2e calorimeter, thirteen pure CsI crystals from Opto Materials and ISMA producers have been characterized by determining their light yield (LY) and longitudinal response uniformity (LRU ), when read with a UV extended PMT. The crystals show a LY of ~ 100 p.e./MeV (~ 150 p.e./MeV) when wrapped with Tyvek and coupled to the PMT without (with) optical grease. The LRU is well represented by a linear slope that is on average around -0.6 %/cm. The timing performances of the Opto Materials crystal, read with a UV extended MPPC, have been evaluated with minimum ionizing particles. A timing resolution of ~ 330 ps (~ 440 ps) is achieved when connecting the photosensor to the MPPC with (without) optical grease. The crystal radiation hardness to a ionization dose has also been studied for one pure CsI crystal from SICCAS. After exposing it to a dose of 900 Gy, a decrease of 33% in the LY is observed while the LRU remains unchanged.
The aim of this work is to show the potential capabilities of monolithic crystals coupled to large SiPM arrays, to be considered as detector blocks for PET scanners enabling Time Of Flight (TOF) capabilities. Monolithic blocks allow one to decode the 3D photon impact position. This approach, along with TOF information, can be of high interest in clinical Positron emission tomography (PET) applications where a typical ring configuration is used. In this manuscript, we evaluate an ASIC- based readout for digitizing all signals coming from analog photosensors. Validation results with one-to-one coupling resulted in a Coincidence Time Resolution (CTR) of 202 ps FWHM. Providing timing resolution when using detectors based on monolithic crystals is however challenging. The wide distribution of scintillation light on the photosensors causes a poor SNR, which makes the system sensible to false triggering and to time walk errors. In this direction, we present a calibration method, designed to correct all recorded timestamps and also to compensate variations in time-paths among all channels. Thereafter, a CTR improvement nearing 45% is observed for all measurements. Moreover, we show a novel approach that describes the use of averaging methods to assign a single timestamp to each gamma impact. This approach results in a further improvement of the CTR in the range of 100 ps FWHM, reaching a time resolution of 585 ps FWHM when using a large 50x50x10 mm3 LYSO scintillator coupled to an 8x8 SiPM (6x6 mm2) array. These pilot studies show detector capabilities regarding TOF information when using monolithic scintillators.
