We study the magnetization dynamics of a molecular magnet driven by static and variable magnetic fields within a semiclassical treatment. The underling analyzes is valid in a regime, when the energy is definitely lower than the anisotropy barrier, but still a substantial number of states are excited. We find the phase space to contain a separatrix line. Solutions far from it are oscillatory whereas the separatrix solution is of a soliton type. States near the separatrix are extremely sensitive to small perturbations, a fact which we utilize for dynamically induced magnetization switching.

Current-driven magnetization switching in low-resistance Co40Fe40B20/MgO/Co40Fe40B20 magnetic tunnel junctions (MTJs) is reported. The critical-current densities Jc required for current-driven switching in samples annealed at 270C and 300C are found to be as low as 7.8 x 10^5 A/cm^2 and 8.8 x 10^5 A/cm^2 with accompanying tunnel magnetoresistance (TMR) ratios of 49% and 73 %, respectively. Further annealing of the samples at 350C increases TMR ratio to 160 %, while accompanying Jc increases to 2.5 x 10^6 A/cm^2. We attribute the low Jc to the high spin-polarization of tunnel current and small MsV product of the CoFeB single free layer, where Ms is the saturation magnetization and V the volume of the free layer.

We discuss the influence of periodic orbits on the dissociation of a model diatomic molecule driven by a strong bichromatic laser fields. Through the stability of periodic orbits we analyze the dissociation probability when parameters like the two am plitudes and the phase lag between the laser fields, are varied. We find that qualitative features of dissociation can be reproduced by considering a small set of short periodic orbits. The good agreement with direct simulations demonstrates the importance of bifurcations of short periodic orbits in the dissociation dynamics of diatomic molecules.

The recent discovery of ferromagnetism in two-dimensional (2D) van der Waals (vdW) materials holds promises for novel spintronic devices with exceptional performances. However, in order to utilize 2D vdW magnets for building spintronic nanodevices su ch as magnetic memories, key challenges remain in terms of effectively switching the magnetization from one state to the other electrically. Here, we devise a bilayer structure of Fe3GeTe2/Pt, in which the magnetization of few-layered Fe3GeTe2 can be effectively switched by the spin-orbit torques (SOTs) originated from the current flowing in the Pt layer. The effective magnetic fields corresponding to the SOTs are further quantitatively characterized using harmonic measurements. Our demonstration of the SOT-driven magnetization switching in a 2D vdW magnet could pave the way for implementing low-dimensional materials in the next-generation spintronic applications.
The flow of in-plane current through ultrathin magnetic heterostructures can cause magnetization switching or domain wall nucleation owing to bulk and interfacial effects. Within the magnetic layer, the current can create magnetic instabilities via s pin transfer torques (STT). At interface(s), spin current generated from the spin Hall effect in a neighboring layer can exert torques, referred to as the spin Hall torques, on the magnetic moments. Here, we study current induced magnetization switching in perpendicularly magnetized CoFeB/MgO heterostructures with a heavy metal (HM) underlayer. Depending on the thickness of the HM underlayer, we find distinct differences in the inplane field dependence of the threshold switching current. The STT is likely responsible for the magnetization reversal for the thinner underlayer films whereas the spin Hall torques cause the switching for thicker underlayer films. For the latter, we find differences in the switching current for positive and negative currents and initial magnetization directions. We find that the growth process during the film deposition introduces an anisotropy that breaks the symmetry of the system and causes the asymmetric switching. The presence of such symmetry breaking anisotropy enables deterministic magnetization switching at zero external fields.
Anisotropic single-molecule magnets may be thought of as molecular switches, with possible applications to molecular spintronics. In this paper, we consider current-induced switching in single-molecule junctions containing an anisotropic magnetic mol ecule. We assume that the carriers interact with the magnetic molecule through the exchange interaction and focus on the regime of high currents in which the molecular spin dynamics is slow compared to the time which the electrons spend on the molecule. In this limit, the molecular spin obeys a non-equilibrium Langevin equation which takes the form of a generalized Landau-Lifshitz-Gilbert equation and which we derive microscopically by means of a non-equilibrium Born-Oppenheimer approximation. We exploit this Langevin equation to identify the relevant switching mechanisms and to derive the current-induced switching rates. As a byproduct, we also derive S-matrix expressions for the various torques entering into the Landau-Lifshitz-Gilbert equation which generalize previous expressions in the literature to non-equilibrium situations.
