We introduce the concept of generalized concatenated quantum codes. This generalized concatenation method provides a systematical way for constructing good quantum codes, both stabilizer codes and nonadditive codes. Using this method, we construct families of new single-error-correcting nonadditive quantum codes, in both binary and nonbinary cases, which not only outperform any stabilizer codes for finite block length, but also asymptotically achieve the quantum Hamming bound for large block length.

We discuss a method to construct quantum codes correcting amplitude damping errors via code concatenation. The inner codes are chosen as asymmetric Calderbank-Shor-Steane (CSS) codes. By concatenating with outer codes correcting symmetric errors, man y new codes with good parameters are found, which are better than the amplitude damping codes obtained by any previously known construction.
We present a comprehensive architectural analysis for a fault-tolerant quantum computer based on cat codes concatenated with outer quantum error-correcting codes. For the physical hardware, we propose a system of acoustic resonators coupled to superc onducting circuits with a two-dimensional layout. Using estimated near-term physical parameters for electro-acoustic systems, we perform a detailed error analysis of measurements and gates, including CNOT and Toffoli gates. Having built a realistic noise model, we numerically simulate quantum error correction when the outer code is either a repetition code or a thin rectangular surface code. Our next step toward universal fault-tolerant quantum computation is a protocol for fault-tolerant Toffoli magic state preparation that significantly improves upon the fidelity of physical Toffoli gates at very low qubit cost. To achieve even lower overheads, we devise a new magic-state distillation protocol for Toffoli states. Combining these results together, we obtain realistic full-resource estimates of the physical error rates and overheads needed to run useful fault-tolerant quantum algorithms. We find that with around 1,000 superconducting circuit components, one could construct a fault-tolerant quantum computer that can run circuits which are intractable for classical supercomputers. Hardware with 32,000 superconducting circuit components, in turn, could simulate the Hubbard model in a regime beyond the reach of classical computing.
We introduce generalized spatially coupled parallel concatenated codes (GSC-PCCs), a class of spatially coupled turbo-like codes obtained by coupling parallel concatenated codes (PCCs) with a fraction of information bits repeated before the PCC encod ing. GSC-PCCs can be seen as a generalization of the original spatially coupled parallel concatenated convolutional codes (SC-PCCs) proposed by Moloudi et al. [1]. To characterize the asymptotic performance of GSC-PCCs, we derive the corresponding density evolution equations and compute their decoding thresholds. We show that the proposed codes have some nice properties such as threshold saturation and that their decoding thresholds improve with the repetition factor $q$. Most notably, our analysis suggests that the proposed codes asymptotically approach the capacity as $q$ tends to infinity with any given constituent convolutional code.

In this paper, we present a new construction of asymmetric quantum codes (AQCs) by combining classical concatenated codes (CCs) with tensor product codes (TPCs), called asymmetric quantum concatenated and tensor product codes (AQCTPCs) which have the following three advantages. First, only the outer codes in AQCTPCs need to satisfy the orthogonal constraint in quantum codes, and any classical linear code can be used for the inner, which makes AQCTPCs very easy to construct. Second, most AQCTPCs are highly degenerate, which means they can correct many more errors than their classical TPC counterparts. Consequently, we construct several families of AQCs with better parameters than known results in the literature. Third, AQCTPCs can be efficiently decoded although they are degenerate, provided that the inner and outer codes are efficiently decodable. In particular, we significantly reduce the inner decoding complexity of TPCs from $Omega(n_2a^{n_1})(a>1)$ to $O(n_2)$ by considering error degeneracy, where $n_1$ and $n_2$ are the block length of the inner code and the outer code, respectively. Furthermore, we generalize our concatenation scheme by using the generalized CCs and TPCs correspondingly.
Entanglement renormalization group flow of the Haah cubic code produces another fracton model with 4 qubits per lattice site, dubbed as the Haah B-code. We provide a schema that generalizes both models to stabilizer codes on any finite group with 2q qubits per site and labeled by multi-subsets of the finite group and a symmetric binary matrix.
