We present the analysis of four XMM-Newton observations of the narrow-line quasar PG 1543+489 at z=0.400 carried out over a rest-frame time-scale of about three years. The X-ray spectrum is characterized by a broad, relativistic iron K_alpha emission line and a steep photon index, which can be both explained by a ionized reflection model, where the source of X-ray photons is presumably very close to the black hole. If this were the case, strong light-bending effects are expected, and actually they provide the most plausible explanation for the large equivalent width (EW=3.1+/-0.8 keV in the source rest frame) of the iron line. Although the light-bending model provides a good description of the X-ray data of PG 1543+489, it is not possible to rule out an absorption model, where obscuring matter partially covers the X-ray source. However, the apparent lack of variations in the properties of the absorber over the time-scale probed by our observations may indicate that this model is less likely.

By observing the near-infrared spectrum of the quasar PG 1116+215 at z = 0.176 and combining with the HST/FOS spectrum, we obtained the relative strengths of three permitted OI lines ({lambda}1304, {lambda}8446, and {lambda}11287) in a quasar for the first time. The photon flux ratios of the OI lines of the quasar were compared with those previously measured in a Seyfert 1 and six narrow-line Seyfert 1s. No significant differences were found in the OI line flux ratios between the quasar and the other Seyferts, suggesting that the gas density in the OI and FeII line-emitting regions in the quasar is of the same order as those in low-luminosity AGNs. It was also found that the line width of OI {lambda}11287 is significantly narrower than that of Ly{alpha}, which is consistent with OI and FeII emission occurring in the partly ionized regions at the outermost portion of the broad-line region where velocities are small.
We report identification of the radio loud narrow-line quasar SDSS J172206.03+565451.6 which we found in the course of a search for radio loud narrow-line Active Galactic Nuclei (AGN). SDSSJ172206.03+565451.6 is only the ~4th securely identified radi o loud narrow-line quasar and the second-most radio loudest with a radio index R_1.4 ~ 100-700. Its black hole mass, M_BH = (2-3) 10^7 M_sun, is unusually small given its radio loudness, and the combination of mass and radio index puts SDSSJ172206.03+565451.6 in a scarcely populated region of M_BH-R diagrams. SDSSJ172206.03+565451.6 is a classical Narrow-Line Seyfert1-type object with FWHM_Hbeta = 1490 km/s, an intensity ratio of [OIII]/Hbeta = 0.7 and FeII emission complexes with FeII4570/Hbeta = 0.7. The ionization parameter of its narrow-line region, estimated from the line ratio [OII]/[OIII], is similar to Seyferts and its high ratio of [NeV]/[NeIII] indicates a strong EUV to soft-X-ray excess. We advertise the combined usage of [OII]/[OIII] and [NeV]/[NeIII] diagrams as a useful diagnostic tool to estimate ionization parameters and to constrain the EUV continuum shape relatively independent from other parameters.
We study the physical and kinematic properties of the narrow line region (NLR) of the nearest obscured quasar MRK 477 (z=0.037), using optical and near-infrared spectroscopy. We explore a diversity of aspects that provide a more complete understandin g of the nature of this object, example of a type 2 quasar in the nearby Universe, as well as a starburst-AGN hybrid system [abridged].
Narrow-line Seyfert 1 galaxies (NLS1) are an intriguing subclass of active galactic nuclei. Their observed properties indicate low central black hole mass and high accretion rate. The extremely radio-loud NLS1 sources often show relativistic beaming and are usually regarded as younger counterparts of blazars. Recently, the object SDSS J110006.07+442144.3 was reported as a candidate NLS1 source. The characteristics of its dramatic optical flare indicated its jet-related origin. The spectral energy distribution of the object was similar to that of the gamma-ray detected radio-loud NLS1, PMN J0948+0022. Our high-resolution European Very Long Baseline Interferometry Network observations at 1.7 and 5 GHz revealed a compact core feature with a brightness temperature of >~ 10^(10) K. Using the lowest brightness temperature value and assuming a moderate Lorentz factor of ~9 the jet viewing angle is <~ 26 deg. Archival Very Large Array data show a large-scale radio structure with a projected linear size of ~150 kpc reminiscent of double-sided morphology.

We study the narrow-line region (NLR) of six Seyfert-1 and six Seyfert-2 galaxies by means of spatially resolved optical spectroscopy and photoionization modelling. From spatially resolved spectral diagnostics, we find a transition between the AGN-ex cited NLR and the surrounding star-forming regions, allowing us to determine the NLR size independent of stellar contamination. CLOUDY photoionization models show that the observed transition represents a true difference in ionization source and cannot be explained by variations of physical parameters. The electron density and ionization parameter decrease with radius indicating that the NLR is photoionized by the central source only. The velocity field suggests a disky NLR gas distribution.
