Using the notions of frame transform and of square integrable projective representation of a locally compact group $G$, we introduce a class of isometries (tight frame transforms) from the space of Hilbert-Schmidt operators in the carrier Hilbert space of the representation into the space of square integrable functions on the direct product group $Gtimes G$. These transforms have remarkable properties. In particular, their ranges are reproducing kernel Hilbert spaces endowed with a suitable star product which mimics, at the level of functions, the original product of operators. A phase space formulation of quantum mechanics relying on the frame transforms introduced in the present paper, and the link of these maps with both the Wigner transform and the wavelet transform are discussed.

The rationale for introducing non-hermitian Hamiltonians and other observables is reviewed and open issues identified. We present a new approach based on Moyal products to compute the metric for quasi-hermitian systems. This approach is not only an e fficient method of computation, but also suggests a new perspective on quasi-hermitian quantum mechanics which invites further exploration. In particular, we present some first results which link the Berry connection and curvature to non-perturbative properties and the metric.
We provide an introduction into the formulation of non-relativistic quantum mechanics using the Wigner phase-space distribution function and apply this concept to two physical situations at the interface of quantum theory and general relativity: (i) the motion of an ensemble of cold atoms relevant to tests of the weak equivalence principle, and (ii) the Kasevich-Chu interferometer. In order to lay the foundations for this analysis we first present a representation-free description of the Kasevich-Chu interferometer based on unitary operators.
An hidden variable (hv) theory is a theory that allows globally dispersion free ensembles. We demonstrate that the Phase Space formulation of Quantum Mechanics (QM) is an hv theory with the position q, and momentum p as the hv. Comparing the Phase space and Hilbert space formulations of QM we identify the assumption that led von Neumann to the Hilbert space formulation of QM which, in turn, precludes global dispersion free ensembles within the theory. The assumption, dubbed I, is: If a physical quantity $mathbf{A}$ has an operator $hat{A}$ then $f(mathbf{A})$ has the operator $f(hat{A})$. This assumption does not hold within the Phase Space formulation of QM. The hv interpretation of the Phase space formulation provides novel insight into the interrelation between dispersion and non commutativity of position and momentum (operators) within the Hilbert space formulation of QM and mitigates the criticism against von Neumanns no hidden variable theorem by, virtually, the consensus.
In physics, experiments ultimately inform us as to what constitutes a good theoretical model of any physical concept: physical space should be no exception. The best picture of physical space in Newtonian physics is given by the configuration space o f a free particle (or the center of mass of a closed system of particles). This configuration space (as well as phase space), can be constructed as a representation space for the relativity symmetry. From the corresponding quantum symmetry, we illustrate the construction of a quantum configuration space, similar to that of quantum phase space, and recover the classical picture as an approximation through a contraction of the (relativity) symmetry and its representations. The quantum Hilbert space reduces into a sum of one-dimensional representations for the observable algebra, with the only admissible states given by coherent states and position eigenstates for the phase and configuration space pictures, respectively. This analysis, founded firmly on known physics, provides a quantum picture of physical space beyond that of a finite-dimensional manifold, and provides a crucial first link for any theoretical model of quantum spacetime at levels beyond simple quantum mechanics. It also suggests looking at quantum physics from a different perspective.
