Al-Mustansiriya University is one of the Iraqi public universities. It is named after the Al-Mustansiriya school, which was founded during the Abbasid era in Baghdad in the year 1233 by the Caliph Al-Mustansir Billah. It was an important scientific and cultural center. It is located in the Rusafa side of the capital, Baghdad. It includes 13 colleges, most of which are on the Rusafa side, with the exception of the College of Medicine and the College of Dentistry and Pharmacy, as they are located next to teaching hospitals on the Karkh side of the capital, Baghdad. Founded in 1963. Historical Brief In 1963, the Teachers Syndicate obtained a license from the Ministry of Education to establish a private university in the name of Al-Mustansiriya University, which includes several branches and departments, to which a mass of teachers and students belong. The union had hoped that the university would expand and make it comprehensive for all scientific and academic branches, but a decision issued in 1964 had ordered its merging with the People’s University, which was attached to the University of Baghdad, but the workers on it kept trying to preserve its gains, so they sought from time to time to achieve some independence for this college and disengage it from The University of Baghdad, in which the various scientific departments were opened, and the wages of students were determined, and the college had the right to own the buildings in its name. Some of the rented places, the bulk of which are from the faculties of the University of Baghdad. But since the beginning of the academic year 1968-1969, it began to complete its comprehensive building, to which most of the theoretical studies departments actually moved, and with the completion of the preparation of the new building for the study, the first name of this institution returned, which is Al-Mustansiriya University, which was successful and imposed itself. In 1968, the name Al-Mustansiriya University was called the university college Then it became an official university in 1974.
