Inspired by the numerical evidence of a potential 3D Euler singularity cite{luo2014potentially,luo2013potentially-2}, we prove finite time singularity from smooth initial data for the HL model introduced by Hou-Luo in cite{luo2014potentially,luo2013potentially-2} for the 3D Euler equations with boundary. Our finite time blowup solution for the HL model and the singular solution considered in cite{luo2014potentially,luo2013potentially-2} share some essential features, including similar blowup exponents, symmetry properties of the solution, and the sign of the solution. We use a dynamical rescaling formulation and the strategy proposed in our recent work in cite{chen2019finite} to establish the nonlinear stability of an approximate self-similar profile. The nonlinear stability enables us to prove that the solution of the HL model with smooth initial data and finite energy will develop a focusing asymptotically self-similar singularity in finite time. Moreover the self-similar profile is unique within a small energy ball and the $C^gamma$ norm of the density $theta$ with $gammaapprox 1/3$ is uniformly bounded up to the singularity time.

Finite time blow up vs global regularity question for 3D Euler equation of fluid mechanics is a major open problem. Several years ago, Luo and Hou cite{HouLuo14} proposed a new finite time blow up scenario based on extensive numerical simulations. The scenario is axi-symmetric and features fast growth of vorticity near a ring of hyperbolic points of the flow located at the boundary of a cylinder containing the fluid. An important role is played by a small boundary layer where intense growth is observed. Several simplified models of the scenario have been considered, all leading to finite time blow up cite{CKY15,CHKLVY17,HORY,KT1,HL15,KY1}. In this paper, we propose two models that are designed specifically to gain insight in the evolution of fluid near the hyperbolic stagnation point of the flow located at the boundary. One model focuses on analysis of the depletion of nonlinearity effect present in the problem. Solutions to this model are shown to be globally regular. The second model can be seen as an attempt to capture the velocity field near the boundary to the next order of accuracy compared with the one-dimensional models such as cite{CKY15,CHKLVY17}. Solutions to this model blow up in finite time.

This paper addresses the construction and the stability of self-similar solutions to the isentropic compressible Euler equations. These solutions model a gas that implodes isotropically, ending in a singularity formation in finite time. The existence of smooth solutions that vanish at infinity and do not have vacuum regions was recently proved and, in this paper, we provide the first construction of such smooth profiles, the first characterization of their spectrum of radial perturbations as well as some endpoints of unstable directions. Numerical simulations of the Euler equations provide evidence that one of these endpoints is a shock formation that happens before the singularity at the origin, showing that the implosion process is unstable.

In this paper, we consider the explicit wave-breaking mechanism and its dynamical behavior near this singularity for the generalized b-equation. This generalized b-equation arises from the shallow water theory, which includes the Camassa-Holm equation, the Degasperis-Procesi equation, the Fornberg-Whitham equation, the Korteweg-de Vires equation and the classical b-equation. More precisely, we find that there exists an explicit self-similar blowup solution for the generalized b-equation. Meanwhile, this self-similar blowup solution is asymptotic stability in a parameters domain, but instability in other parameters domain.
We consider the heat flow of corotational harmonic maps from $mathbb R^3$ to the three-sphere and prove the nonlinear asymptotic stability of a particular self-similar shrinker that is not known in closed form. Our method provides a novel, systematic, robust, and constructive approach to the stability analysis of self-similar blowup in parabolic evolution equations. In particular, we completely avoid using delicate Lyapunov functionals, monotonicity formulas, indirect arguments, or fragile parabolic structure like the maximum principle. As a matter of fact, our approach reduces the nonlinear stability analysis of self-similar shrinkers to the spectral analysis of the associated self-adjoint linearized operators.
In this paper, it is shown that there does not exist a non-trivial Lerays backward self-similar solution to the 3D Navier-Stokes equations with profiles in Morrey spaces $dot{mathcal{M}}^{q,1}(mathbb{R}^{3})$ provided $3/2<q<6$, or in $dot{mathcal{M}}^{q,l}(mathbb{R}^{3})$ provided $6leq q<infty$ and $2<lleq q$. This generalizes the corresponding results obtained by Nev{c}as-Rr{a}uv{z}iv{c}ka-v{S}ver{a}k [19, Acta.Math. 176 (1996)] in $L^{3}(mathbb{R}^{3})$, Tsai [25, Arch. Ration. Mech. Anal. 143 (1998)] in $L^{p}(mathbb{R}^{3})$ with $pgeq3$,, Chae-Wolf [3, Arch. Ration. Mech. Anal. 225 (2017)] in Lorentz spaces $L^{p,infty}(mathbb{R}^{3})$ with $p>3/2$, and Guevara-Phuc [11, SIAM J. Math. Anal. 12 (2018)] in $dot{mathcal{M}}^{q,frac{12-2q}{3}}(mathbb{R}^{3})$ with $12/5leq q<3$ and in $L^{q, infty}(mathbb{R}^3)$ with $12/5leq q<6$.
