In this work, we explore the possibility of enhancing a spin current under a thermal switch, i.e., connecting the central transport region to two leads in individual thermal equilibrium abruptly. Using the nonequilibrium Greens function method for the transient spin current, we obtain a closed-form solution, which is applicable in the whole nonlinear quantum transport regime with a significant reduction of computational complexity. Furthermore, we perform a model calculation on a single-level quantum dot with Lorentzian linewidth. It shows that the transient spin current may vary spatially, causing spin accumulation or depletion in the central region. Moreover, general enhancement of the spin current in the transient regime is observed. In particular, the in-plane components of the transient spin current may increase by 2-3 orders of magnitude compared to the steady-state thermoelectric spin current under a temperature difference of 30 K. Our research demonstrates that ultrafast enhancement of spin currents can be effectively achieved by thermal switches.

We investigate electron shuttling in three-terminal nanoelectromechanocal device built on a movable metallic rod oscillating between two drains. The device shows a double-well shaped electromechanical potential tunable by a source-drain bias voltage. Four stationary regimes controllable by the bias are found for this device: (i) single stable fixed point, (ii) two stable fixed points, (iii) two limiting cycles, and (iv) single limiting cycle. In the presence of perpendicular magnetic field the Lorentz force makes possible switching from one electromechanical state to another. The mechanism of tunable transitions between various stable regimes based on the interplay between voltage controlled electromechanical instability and magnetically controlled switching is suggested. The switching phenomenon is implemented for achieving both a reliable emph{active} current switch and sensoring of small variations of magnetic field.
We study the effects of cotunneling and a non-uniform Zeeman splitting on the stationary and transient leakage current through a double quantum dot in the Pauli spin blockade regime. We find that the stationary current due to cotunneling vanishes at low temperature and large applied magnetic field, allowing for the dynamical preparation of a pure spin ground state, even at large voltage bias. Additionally, we analyze current that flows between blocking events, characterized, in general, by a fractional effective charge $e^*$. This charge can be used as a sensitive probe of spin relaxation mechanisms and can be used to determine the visibility of Rabi oscillations.
We propose a theoretical approach based on an interferometer composed by two quantum dots asymmetrically coupled to isolated Majorana quasiparticles (MQPs), lying on the edges of two topological Kitaev chains, respectively via couplings $(t+Delta)$ and $(Delta-t)$. This setup enables us to probe MQPs in a quite distinct way from the zero-bias peak feature. Most importantly, the system behaves as a current switch made by two distinct paths: (i) for the upper dot connected to both chains, the device perceives both MQPs as an ordinary fermion and the current crosses solely the lower dot, since current in the upper dot is prevented due to the presence of the superconducting gap; and (ii) by suppressing slightly the hybridization of the upper dot with one chain, the current is abruptly switched to flow through this dot, once a trapped electron as a bound state in the continuum (BIC) (Phys. Rev. B 93, 165116 (2016)) appears in the lower dot. Such a current switch between upper and lower dots characterizes the Quantum Phase Transition (QPT) proposed here, being the ratio $t/Delta$ the control parameter of the transition. This QPT is associated with a change from an ordinary fermionic excitation regime to a MQP in the interferometer, which enables not only the fundamental revealing of MQPs, but also yields a current switch assisted by them.
We report on the fate of the quantum Hall effect in graphene under strong laser illumination. By using Floquet theory combined with both a low energy description and full tight-binding models, we clarify the selection rules, the quasienergy band structure, as well as their connection with the two-terminal and multi-terminal conductance in a device setup as relevant for experiments. We show that the well-known dynamical gaps that appear in the Floquet spectrum at $pm,hbarOmega/2$ lead to a switch-off of the quantum Hall edge transport for different edge terminations except for the armchair one, where two terms cancel out exactly. More interestingly, we show that near the Dirac point changing the laser polarization (circular right or circular left) controls the Hall conductance, by allowing to switch it on or off, or even by flipping its sign, thereby reversing the chirality of the edge states. This might lead to new avenues to fully control topologically protected transport.
We investigate the amplification of externally excited spin waves via the Spin-Transfer-Torque (STT) effect in combination with the Spin-Hall-Effect (SHE) employing short current pulses. The results reveal that, in the case of an overcompensation of the spin wave damping, a strong nonlinear shift of the spin wave frequency spectrum occurs. In particular, this shift affects the spin wave amplification using the SHE-STT effect. In contrast, this effect allows for the realization of a spin wave switch. By determining the corresponding working point, an efficient spin wave excitation is only possible in the presence of the SHE-STT effect yielding an increased spin wave intensity of a factor of 20 compared to the absence of the SHE-STT effect.
