We show how to construct an algebraic curve for factorized string solution in the context of the AdS/CFT correspondence. We define factorized solutions to be solutions where the flat-connection becomes independent of one of the worldsheet variables by a similarity transformation with a matrix $S$ satisfying $S^{-1}d S=const$. Using the factorization property we construct a well defined Lax operator and an associated algebraic curve. The construction procedure is local and does not require the introduction of a monodromy matrix. The procedure can be applied for string solutions with any boundary conditions. We study the properties of the curve and give several examples for the application of the procedure.

We apply the duality transformation relating the heterotic to the IIA string in 6D to the class of exact string solutions described by the chiral null model and derive explicit formulas for all fields after reduction to 4D. If the model is restricted to asymptotically flat black hole type solutions with well defined mass and charges the purely electric solutions on the heterotic side are mapped to dyonic ones on the IIA side. The mass remains invariant. Before and after the duality transformation the solutions belong to short $N=4$ SUSY multiplets and saturate the corresponding Bogomolnyi bounds.
In this work, the following conjectures are proven in the case of a Riemann surface with abelian group of symmetry: a) The $b-c$ systems on a Riemann surface $M$ are equivalent to a multivalued field theory on the complex plane if $M$ is represented as an algebraic curve; b) the amplitudes of the $b-c$ systems on a Riemann surface $M$ with discrete group of symmetry can be derived from the operator product expansions on the complex plane of an holonomic quantum field theory a la Sato, Jimbo and Miwa. To this purpose, the solutions of the Riemann-Hilbert problem on an algebraic curve with abelian monodromy group obtained by Zamolodchikov, Knizhnik and Bershadskii-Radul are used in order to expand the $b-c$ fields in a Fourier-like basis. The amplitudes of the $b-c$ systems on the Riemann surface are then recovered exploiting simple normal ordering rules on the complex plane.

We have discussed a particular class of exact cosmological solutions of the 4-dimensional low energy string gravity in the string frame. In the vacuum without matter and the 2-form fields, the exact cosmological solutions always give monotonically shrinking universes if the dilaton field is not a constant. However, in the presence of the 2-form fields and/or the radiation-like fluid in the string frame, the exact cosmological solutions show a minimum size of the universe in the evolution, but with an initial cosmological curvature singularity in the string frame.
We obtain classical string solutions on RxS^2 by applying the dressing method on string solutions with elliptic Pohlmeyer counterparts. This is realized through the use of the simplest possible dressing factor, which possesses just a pair of poles lying on the unit circle. The latter is equivalent to the action of a single Backlund transformation on the corresponding sine-Gordon solutions. The obtained dressed elliptic strings present an interesting bifurcation of their qualitative characteristics at a specific value of a modulus of the seed solutions. Finally, an interesting generic feature of the dressed strings, which originates from the form of the simplest dressing factor and not from the specific seed solution, is the fact that they can be considered as drawn by an epicycle of constant radius whose center is running on the seed solution. The radius of the epicycle is directly related to the location of the poles of the dressing factor.
A family of exact conformal field theories is constructed which describe charged black strings in three dimensions. Unlike previous charged black hole or extended black hole solutions in string theory, the low energy spacetime metric has a regular inner horizon (in addition to the event horizon) and a timelike singularity. As the charge to mass ratio approaches unity, the event horizon remains but the singularity disappears.
