Decoupling of c-quark loops in b-quark HQET is considered. The decoupling coefficients for the HQET heavy-quark field and the heavy-light quark current are calculated with the three-loop accuracy. The last result can be used to improve the accuracy of extracting f_B from HQET lattice simulations (without c-quark loops). The decoupling coefficient for the flavour-nonsinglet QCD current with n antisymmetrized gamma-matrices is also obtained at three loops; the result for the tensor current (n=2) is new.
The present status of the heavy-quark production theory is critically reviewed in the first contribution. The second contribution summarises the present heavy flavour data from HERA and gives an outlook of what can be expected from HERA-II. The potential of the LHC experiments for charm and beauty physics is reviewed in the 3rd contribution. Then the relevance of saturation and small-x effects to heavy quark production at HERA and at the LHC are discussed. The non-perturbative aspects of heavy-quark fragmentation and their relevance to HERA and LHC are discussed in the next contribution. Finally, a comparison of different theoretical predictions for HERA and LHC based on different approaches is presented.
The QCD/HQET matching coefficient for the heavy-quark field is calculated up to four loops. It must be finite; this requirement produces analytical results for some terms in the four-loop on-shell heavy-quark field renormalization constant which were previously only known numerically. The effect of a non-zero lighter-flavor mass is calculated up to three loops. A class of on-shell integrals with two masses is analyzed in detail. By specifying our result to QED, we obtain the relation between the electron field and the Bloch--Nordsieck field with four-loop accuracy.
In this work, we carry out the study of heavy flavor pentatuarks with four heavy quarks, which have typical $QQQQbar q$ configuration. Within the Chromomagnetic Interaction model, the mass spectrum of these discussed $QQQQbar q$ pentaquarks is given. In addition to the mass spectrum analysis, we also illustrate their two-body strong decay behavior by estimating some ratios of decay channels. By these effort, we suggest that future experiment should pay attention to this kind of pentaquark.
The color field of a quark, stripped off in a hard reaction, is regenerated via gluon radiation. The space-time development of a jet is controlled by the coherence time of gluon radiation, which for heavy quarks is subject to the dead-cone effect, suppressing gluons with small transverse momenta. As a result, heavy quarks can radiate only a small fraction of the initial energy. This explains the peculiar shape of the measured heavy quark fragmentation function, which strongly peaks at large fractional momenta z. The fragmentation length distribution, related to the fragmentation function in a model independent way, turns out to be concentrated at distances much shorter than the confinement radius. This implies that the mechanisms of heavy quark fragmentation is pure perturbative.
Lattice quantum chromodynamics provides first principles calculations for hadrons containing heavy quarks -- charm and bottom quarks. Their mass spectra, decay rates, and some hadronic matrix elements can be calculated on the lattice in a model independent manner. In this review, we introduce the effective theories that treat heavy quarks on the lattice. We summarize results on the heavy quarkonium spectrum, which verify the validity of the effective theory approach. We then discuss applications to $B$ physics, which is the main target of the lattice theory of heavy quarks. We review progress in lattice calculations of the $B$ meson decay constant, the $B$ parameter, semi-leptonic decay form factors, and other important quantities.)
