In order to minimize the impact of lane change (LC) maneuver on surrounding traffic environment, a hierarchical automatic LC algorithm that could realize local optimum has been proposed. This algorithm consists of a tactical layer planner and an operational layer controller. The former generates a local-optimum trajectory. The comfort, efficiency, and safety of the LC vehicle and its surrounding vehicles are simultaneously satisfied in the optimization objective function. The later is designed based on vehicle kinematics model and the Model Predictive Control (MPC), which aims to minimize the tracking error and control increment. Combining macro-level and micro-level analysis, we verify the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm. Our results demonstrate that our proposed algorithm could greatly reduce the impact of LC maneuver on traffic flow. This is reflected in the decrease of total loss for nearby vehicles (such as discomfort and speed reduction), and the increase of traffic speed and throughput within the LC area. In addition, in order to guide the practical application of our algorithm, we employ the HighD dataset to validate the algorithm. This research could also be regarded as a preliminary foundational work to develop locally-optimal automatic LC algorithm. We anticipate that this research could provide valuable insights into autonomous driving technology.
Electronic functionalities in materials from silicon to transition metal oxides are to a large extent controlled by defects and their relative arrangement. Outstanding examples are the oxides of copper, where defect order is correlated with their high superconducting transition temperatures. The oxygen defect order can be highly inhomogeneous, even in optimal superconducting samples, which raises the question of the nature of the sample regions where the order does not exist but which nonetheless form the glue binding the ordered regions together. Here we use scanning X-ray microdiffraction (with beam 300 nm in diameter) to show that for La2CuO4+y, the glue regions contain incommensurate modulated local lattice distortions, whose spatial extent is most pronounced for the best superconducting samples. For an underdoped single crystal with mobile oxygen interstitials in the spacer La2O2+y layers intercalated between the CuO2 layers, the incommensurate modulated local lattice distortions form droplets anticorrelated with the ordered oxygen interstitials, and whose spatial extent is most pronounced for the best superconducting samples. In this simplest of high temperature superconductors, there are therefore not one, but two networks of ordered defects which can be tuned to achieve optimal superconductivity. For a given stoichiometry, the highest transition temperature is obtained when both the ordered oxygen and lattice defects form fractal patterns, as opposed to appearing in isolated spots. We speculate that the relationship between material complexity and superconducting transition temperature Tc is actually underpinned by a fundamental relation between Tc and the distribution of ordered defect networks supported by the materials.
A method for finding an optimum $n$-dimensional commutative group code of a given order $M$ is presented. The approach explores the structure of lattices related to these codes and provides a significant reduction in the number of non-isometric cases to be analyzed. The classical factorization of matrices into Hermite and Smith normal forms and also basis reduction of lattices are used to characterize isometric commutative group codes. Several examples of optimum commutative group codes are also presented.
Motion planning is critical to realize the autonomous operation of mobile robots. As the complexity and stochasticity of robot application scenarios increase, the planning capability of the classical hierarchical motion planners is challenged. In recent years, with the development of intelligent computation technology, the deep reinforcement learning (DRL) based motion planning algorithm has gradually become a research hotspot due to its advantageous features such as not relying on the map prior, model-free, and unified global and local planning paradigms. In this paper, we provide a systematic review of various motion planning methods. First, we summarize the representative and cutting-edge algorithms for each submodule of the classical motion planning architecture and analyze their performance limitations. Subsequently, we concentrate on reviewing RL-based motion planning approaches, including RL optimization motion planners, map-free end-to-end methods that integrate sensing and decision-making, and multi-robot cooperative planning methods. Last but not least, we analyze the urgent challenges faced by these mainstream RL-based motion planners in detail, review some state-of-the-art works for these issues, and propose suggestions for future research.
Developing an intelligent vehicle which can perform human-like actions requires the ability to learn basic driving skills from a large amount of naturalistic driving data. The algorithms will become efficient if we could decompose the complex driving tasks into motion primitives which represent the elementary compositions of driving skills. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to segment unlabeled trajectory data into a library of motion primitives. By applying a probabilistic inference based on an iterative Expectation-Maximization algorithm, our method segments the collected trajectories while learning a set of motion primitives represented by the dynamic movement primitives. The proposed method utilizes the mutual dependencies between the segmentation and representation of motion primitives and the driving-specific based initial segmentation. By utilizing this mutual dependency and the initial condition, this paper presents how we can enhance the performance of both the segmentation and the motion primitive library establishment. We also evaluate the applicability of the primitive representation method to imitation learning and motion planning algorithms. The model is trained and validated by using the driving data collected from the Beijing Institute of Technology intelligent vehicle platform. The results show that the proposed approach can find the proper segmentation and establish the motion primitive library simultaneously.
Sampling-based motion planners rely on incremental densification to discover progressively shorter paths. After computing feasible path $xi$ between start $x_s$ and goal $x_t$, the Informed Set (IS) prunes the configuration space $mathcal{C}$ by conservatively eliminating points that cannot yield shorter paths. Densification via sampling from this Informed Set retains asymptotic optimality of sampling from the entire configuration space. For path length $c(xi)$ and Euclidean heuristic $h$, $IS = { x | x in mathcal{C}, h(x_s, x) + h(x, x_t) leq c(xi) }$. Relying on the heuristic can render the IS especially conservative in high dimensions or complex environments. Furthermore, the IS only shrinks when shorter paths are discovered. Thus, the computational effort from each iteration of densification and planning is wasted if it fails to yield a shorter path, despite improving the cost-to-come for vertices in the search tree. Our key insight is that even in such a failure, shorter paths to vertices in the search tree (rather than just the goal) can immediately improve the planners sampling strategy. Guided Incremental Local Densification (GuILD) leverages this information to sample from Local Subsets of the IS. We show that GuILD significantly outperforms uniform sampling of the Informed Set in simulated $mathbb{R}^2$, $SE(2)$ environments and manipulation tasks in $mathbb{R}^7$.
