The interior of a neutron star is expected to be occupied by a neutron $^3P_2$ superfluid, which is the condensate of spin-triplet $p$-wave Cooper pairs of neutrons with total angular momentum $J=2$. Here we investigate the thermodynamic stability of $^3P_2$ superfluids in a neutron-star interior under a strong magnetic field. Using the theory incorporating the finite size correction of neutron Fermi surface, we show that the spin-polarized phases of $^3P_2$ superfluids, the magnetized biaxial nematic phase and the ferromagnetic phase, appear in high temperatures and high magnetic fields. These phases were missed in the previous studies using the quasiclassical approximation in which dispersions of neutrons are linearized around the Fermi surface. In particular, the ferromagnetic phase, which is the condensation of Cooper-paired neutrons with fully polarized spins, appears between the normal phase and the biaxial nematic phase and enlarge the thermodynamic stability of $^3P_2$ superfluids under strong magnetic fields. Furthermore, we present the augmented Ginzburg-Landau theory that incorporates the thermodynamic stability of spin-polarized $^3P_2$ superfluid phases.

We study the thermodynamics and critical behavior of neutron $^3P_2$ superfluids in the inner cores of neutron stars. $^3P_2$ superfluids offer a rich phase diagram including uniaxial/biaxial nematic phases, the ferromagnetic phase, and the cyclic phase. Using the Bogoliubov-de Gennes (BdG) equation as superfluid Fermi liquid theory, we show that a strong (weak) magnetic field drives the first (second) order transition from the dihedral-two biaxial nematic phase to dihedral-four biaxial nematic phase in low (high) temperatures, and their phase boundaries are divided by the critical endpoint (CEP). We demonstrate that the set of critical exponents at the CEP satisfies the Rushbrooke, Griffiths, and Widom equalities, indicating a new universality class. At the CEP, the $^3P_2$ superfluid exhibits critical behavior with nontrivial critical exponents, indicating a new universality class. Furthermore, we find that the Ginzburg-Landau (GL) equation up to the 8th-order expansion satisfies three equalities and properly captures the physics of the CEP. This implies that the GL theory can provide a tractable way for understanding critical phenomena which may be realized in the dense core of realistic magnetars.
We discuss collective excitations (both fundamental and solitonic excitations) of quantized superfluid vortices in neutron $^3P_2$ superfluids, which likely exist in high density neutron matter such as neutron stars. Besides the well-known Kelvin modes (translational zero modes), we find a gapfull mode whose low-energy description takes the simple form of a double sine-Gordon model. The associated kink solution and its effects on spontaneous magnetization inside the vortex core are analyzed in detail.
We clarify topology of $^3P_2$ superfluids which are expected to be realized in the inner cores of neutron stars and cubic odd-parity superconductors. $^3P_2$ phases include uniaxial/biaxial nematic phases and nonunitary ferromagnetic and cyclic phases. We here show that all the phases are accompanied by different types of topologically protected gapless fermions: Surface Majorana fermions in nematic phases and a quartet of (single) itinerant Majorana fermions in the cyclic (ferromagnetic) phase. Using the superfluid Fermi liquid theory, we also demonstrate that dihedral-two and -four biaxial nematic phases are thermodynamically favored in the weak coupling limit under a magnetic field. It is shown that the tricritical point exists on the phase boundary between these two phases and may be realized in the core of realistic magnetars. We unveil the intertwining of symmetry and topology behind mass acquisition of surface Majorana fermions in nematic phases.

The application of the nonperturbative renormalisation group approach to a system with two fermion species is studied. Assuming a simple ansatz for the effective action with effective bosons, describing pairing effects we derive a set of approximate flow equations for the effective coupling including boson and fermionic fluctuations. The case of two fermions with different masses but coinciding Fermi surfaces is considered. The phase transition to a phase with broken symmetry is found at a critical value of the running scale. The large mass difference is found to disfavour the formation of pairs. The mean-field results are recovered if the effects of boson loops are omitted. While the boson fluctuation effects were found to be negligible for large values of $p_{F} a$ they become increasingly important with decreasing $p_{F} a$ thus making the mean field description less accurate.

In the first part of this paper, we investigate the possible existence of a structured hadron-quark mixed phase in the cores of neutron stars. This phase, referred to as the hadron-quark pasta phase, consists of spherical blob, rod, and slab rare phase geometries. Particular emphasis is given to modeling the size othis phase in rotating neutron stars. We use the relativistic mean-field theory to model hadronic matter and the non-local three-flavor Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model to describe quark matter. Based on these models, the hadron-quark pasta phase exists only in very massive neutron stars, whose rotational frequencies are less than around 300 Hz. All other stars are not dense enough to trigger quark deconfinement in their cores. Part two of the paper deals with the quark-hadron composition of hot (proto) neutron star matter. To this end we use a local three-flavor Polyakov-Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model which includes the t Hooft (quark flavor mixing) term. It is found that this term leads to non-negligible changes in the particle composition of (proto) neutron stars made of hadron-quark matter.
