The thermodynamic and elastic properties of a flexible polymer in the presence of dipole interactions are studied via Monte Carlo simulations. The structural coil-globular, solid-globular, and solid-solid transitions are mapped in the hyperphase diagram, parameterized by the dipole concentration, $eta$, and temperature, $T$. Polymer flexibility is usually quantified by the persistent length, $ell_p$, which is defined as the length on which the bond-bond correlation is lost. Non-monotonic flexibility of polymeric complexes as a function of $eta$ has been interpreted as a cooperative effect under the Worm-Like Chain model. Instead of the usual exponential behavior, $langle Cleft(kright)ranglepropto e^{-k/ell_p}$, here we show that the bond-bond correlation follows a power law decay, $langle Cleft(kright)rangleapprox c_0k^{-omega}$. The power law regime holds even at the coil-globular transition, where a Gaussian limit is expected, originated from non-leading terms due to monomer-monomer connectivity. The exponent $omega$ monotonically converges to the mbox{SAW} limit for large $eta$, if the isotherm pathway is constructed at the coil phase. The deviation from ideality in better probed at the chain segment size, and the expected $Theta-$condition at the $(T,eta)$ pathway near the coil-globular transition is not observed.

We calculate the dependence of the electrostatic persistence length, l_e, of weakly charged flexible polyelectrolyte chains using a self-consistent variational theory. The variation of l_e with kappa, the inverse Debye screening length, is controlled by the parameter l_0 l_B/A^2, where l_0 is the bare persistence length, l_B is the Bjerrum length, and A is the mean distance between charges along the chain. Several distinct regimes for the dependence of l_e on kappa emerge depending on the value of l_0 l_B/A^2. We show that when l_0 l_B /A^2 << 1 we recover the classical result, l_e propto kappa^{-2}. For intermediate values of l_0 l_B /A^2, l_e propto kappa^{-1}. In this regime one can also get l_e propto kappa^{-y} with y < 1 depending on the strength of the Coulomb interaction. Qualitative comparisons between our theory and simulations as well as other theories are presented.
We introduce a novel coarse-grained bead-spring model for flexible polymers to systematically examine the effects of an adjusted bonded potential on the formation and stability of structural macrostates in a thermal environment. The density of states obtained in advanced replica-exchange Monte Carlo simulations is analyzed by employing the recently developed generalized microcanonical inflection-point analysis method, which enables the identification of diverse structural phases and the construction of a suitably parameterized hyperphase diagram. It reveals that icosahedral phases dominate for polymers with asymmetric and narrow bond potentials, whereas polymers with symmetric and more elastic bonds tend to form amorphous structures with non-icosahedral cores. We also observe a hierarchy in the freezing transition behavior associated with the formation of the surface layer after nucleation.
Conformations of partially or fully adsorbed semiflexible polymer chains are studied varying both contour length $L$, chain stiffness, $kappa$, and the strength of the adsorption potential over a wide range. Molecular Dynamics simulations show that partially adsorbed chains (with tails, surface attached trains and loops) are not described by the Kratky-Porod wormlike chain model. The crossover of the persistence length from its three-dimensional value $(ell_p)$ to the enhanced value in two dimensions $(2ell_p)$ is analyzed, and excluded volume effects are identified for $L gg ell_p$. Consequences for the interpretation of experiments are suggested. We verify the prediction that the adsorption threshold scales as $ell_p^{-1/3}$.
We report Monte Carlo simulations of the self-assembly of supramolecular polymers based on a model of patchy particles. We find a first-order phase transition, characterized by hysteresis and nucleation, toward a solid bundle of polymers, of length much greater than the average gas phase length. We argue that the bundling transition is the supramolecular equivalent of the sublimation transition, that results from a weak chain-chain interaction. We provide a qualitative equation of state that gives physical insight beyond the specific values of the parameters used in our simulations.

Self-assembling, semi-flexible polymers are ubiquitous in biology and technology. However, there remain conflicting accounts of the equilibrium kinetics for such an important system. Here, by focusing on a dynamical description of a minimal model in an overdamped environment, I identify the correct kinetic scheme that describes the system at equilibrium in the limits of high bonding energy and dilute concentration.
