It was first noted during the 1970s that finite-range distorted wave Born approximation (FR-DWBA) calculations were unable satisfactorily to describe the shape of the angular distributions of many single-proton (and some single-neutron) transfer reactions induced by heavy ions, with calculations shifted to larger angles by up to ~ 4 degrees compared with the data. These reactions exhibited a significant mismatch, either of the reaction Q value or the grazing angular momentum of the entrance and exit channels, and it was speculated that the inclusion of multi-step transfer paths via excited state(s) of the projectile and/or ejectile could compensate for the effect of this mismatch and yield good descriptions of the data by shifting the calculated peaks to smaller angles. However, to date this has not been explicitly demonstrated for many reactions. In this work we show that inclusion of the two-step transfer path via the 4.44-MeV 2+ excited state of the 12C projectile in coupled channel Born approximation calculations enables a good description of the 208Pb(12C,11B)209Bi single-proton stripping data at four incident energies which could not be described by the FR-DWBA. We also show that inclusion of a similar reaction path for the 208Pb(12C,13C)207Pb single-neutron pickup reaction has a relatively minor influence, slightly improving the already good description obtained with the FR-DWBA.

The measured inclusive $^6$He and $^4$He production cross sections of G. Marqu{i}nez-Dur{a}n {em et al.}, Phys. Rev. C {bf 98}, 034615 (2018) are reexamined and the conclusions concerning the relative importance of 1n and 2n transfer to the production of $^6$He arising from the interaction of a 22 MeV $^8$He beam with a $^{208}$Pb target revised. A consideration of the kinematics of the 2n-stripping reaction when compared with the measured $^6$He total energy versus angle spectrum places strict limits on the allowed excitation energy of the $^{210}$Pb residual, so constraining distorted wave Born approximation calculations that the contribution of the 2n stripping process to the inclusive $^6$He production can only be relatively small. It is therefore concluded that the dominant $^6$He production mechanism must be 1n stripping followed by decay of the $^7$He ejectile. Based on this result we present strong arguments in favor of direct, one step four-neutron (4n) stripping as the main mechanism for $^4$He production.
Isobaric single charge-exchange reactions, changing nuclear charges by one unit but leaving the mass partitions unaffected, have been for the first time investigated by peripheral collisions of $^{112}$Sn ions accelerated up to 1textit{A} GeV at the GSI facilities. The high-resolving power of the FRS spectrometer allows us to obtain $(p, n)$-type isobaric charge-exchange cross sections with an uncertainty of $3.5%$ and to separate quasi-elastic and inelastic components in the missing-energy spectra of the ejectiles. The inelastic component is associated to the excitation of the $Delta$(1232) isobar resonance and the emission of pions in s-wave both in the target and projectile nucleus, while the quasi-elastic contribution is associated to the nuclear spin-isospin response of nucleon-hole excitations. An apparent shift of the $Delta$-resonance peak of $sim$63 MeV is observed when comparing the missing-energy spectra obtained from the measurements with proton and carbon targets. A detailed analysis, performed with a theoretical model for the reactions, indicates that this observation can be simply interpreted as a change in the relative magnitude between the contribution of the excitation of the resonance in the target and in the projectile.

Using symmetric 112Sn+112Sn, 124Sn+124Sn collisions as references, we probe isospin diffusion in peripheral asymmetric 112Sn+124Sn, 124Sn+112Sn systems at incident energy of E/A=50 MeV. Isoscaling analyses imply that the quasi-projectile and quasi-target in these collisions do not achieve isospin equilibrium, permitting an assessment of the isospin transport rates. We find that comparisons between isospin sensitive experimental and theoretical observables, using suitably chosen scaled ratios, permit investigation of the density dependence of the asymmetry term of the nuclear equation of state.
With the development of radioactive beam facilities, studies concerning the shell evolution of unstable nuclei have recently gained prominence. Intruder components, particularly s-wave intrusion, in the low-lying states of light neutron-rich nuclei near N=8 are of importance in the study of shell evolution. The use of single-nucleon transfer reactions in inverse kinematics has been a sensitive tool that can be used to quantitatively investigate the single-particle orbital component of selectively populated states. The spin-parity, spectroscopic factor (or single-particle strength), and effective single-particle energy can all be extracted from such reactions. These observables are often useful to explain the nature of shell evolution, and to constrain, check, and test the parameters used in nuclear structure models. In this article, the experimental studies of the intruder components in low-lying states of neutron-rich nuclei of He, Li, Be, B, and C isotopes using various single-nucleon transfer reactions are reviewed. The focus is laid on the precise determination of the intruder s-wave strength in low-lying states.

Collisions of 112Sn and 124Sn nuclei, which differ in their isospin asymmetry, provide information about the rate of isospin diffusion and equilibration. While several different probes can provide accurate diffusion measurements, the ratios of the mirror nuclei may be the simplest and most promising one. Ratios of the mass seven mirror nuclei yields are analyzed to show the rapidity, transverse momentum and impact parameter dependence of isospin diffusion.
