Tremendous ongoing theory efforts are dedicated to developing new methods for QCD calculations. Qualitative rather than incremental advances are needed to fully exploit data still to be collected at the LHC. The maximally supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory (${mathcal N}=4$ sYM) shares with QCD the gluon sector, which contains the most complicated Feynman graphs, but at the same time has many special properties, and is believed to be solvable exactly. It is natural to ask what we can learn from advances in ${mathcal N}=4$ sYM for addressing difficult problems in QCD. With this in mind, we review here several remarkable developments and highlights of recent results in ${mathcal N}=4$ sYM. This includes all-order results for certain scattering amplitudes, novel symmetries, surprising geometrical structures of loop integrands, novel tools for the calculation of Feynman integrals, and bootstrap methods. While several insights and tools have already been carried over to QCD and have contributed to state-of-the-art calculations for LHC physics, we argue that there is a host of further fascinating ideas waiting to be explored.

Precision studies at electron-positron colliders with center-of-mass energies in the charm-tau region and below have strongly contributed to our understanding of light-meson interactions at low energies. We focus on the processes involving two or three light mesons with invariant masses below nucleon-antinucleon threshold. A prominent role is given to the interactions of the nine lightest pseudoscalar mesons (pions, kaons, $eta$, and $eta$) and the two narrow neutral isoscalar vector mesons $omega$ and $phi$. Experimental methods used to produce the mesons are reviewed as well as theory tools to extract properties of the meson-meson interactions. Examples of recent results from the DA$Phi$NE, BEPCII, and VEPP-2000 colliders are presented. In the outlook we briefly discuss prospects for further studies at future super-charm-tau factories.
Different from other multiple top-quark productions, triple top-quark production requires the presence of both flavor violating neutral interaction and flavor conserving neutral interaction. We describe the interaction of triple top-quarks and up-quark in terms of two dimension-6 operators; one can be induced by a new heavy vector resonance, the other by a scalar resonance. Combining same-sign top-quark pair production and four top-quark production, we explore the potential of the 13 TeV LHC on searching for the triple top-quark production.
We study event shapes in N=4 SYM describing the angular distribution of energy and R-charge in the final states created by the simplest half-BPS scalar operator. Applying the approach developed in the companion paper arXiv:1309.0769, we compute these observables using the correlation functions of certain components of the N=4 stress-tensor supermultiplet: the half-BPS operator itself, the R-symmetry current and the stress tensor. We present master formulas for the all-order event shapes as convolutions of the Mellin amplitude defining the correlation function of the half-BPS operators, with a coupling-independent kernel determined by the choice of the observable. We find remarkably simple relations between various event shapes following from N=4 superconformal symmetry. We perform thorough checks at leading order in the weak coupling expansion and show perfect agreement with the conventional calculations based on amplitude techniques. We extend our results to strong coupling using the correlation function of half-BPS operators obtained from the AdS/CFT correspondence.

Ultra-relativistic electromagnetic plasmas can be used for improving our understanding of the quark-gluon plasma. In the weakly coupled regime both plasmas can be described by transport theoretical and quantum field theoretical methods leading to similar results for the plasma properties (dielectric tensor, dispersion relations, plasma frequency, Debye screening, transport coefficients, damping and particle production rates). In particular, future experiments with ultra-relativistic electron-positron plasmas in ultra-strong laser fields might open the possibility to test these predictions, e.g. the existence of a new fermionic plasma wave (plasmino). In the strongly coupled regime electromagnetic plasmas such as complex plasmas can be used as models or at least analogies for the quark-gluon plasma possibly produced in relativistic heavy-ion experiments. For example, pair correlation functions can be used to investigate the equation of state and cross section enhancement for parton scattering can be explained.
We study the domain walls in hot $4$-D $SU(N)$ super Yang-Mills theory and QCD(adj), with $n_f$ Weyl flavors. We find that the $k$-wall worldvolume theory is $2$-D QCD with gauge group $SU(N-k)times SU(k) times U(1)$ and Dirac fermions charged under $U(1)$ and transforming in the bi-fundamental representation of the nonabelian factors. We show that the DW theory has a $1$-form $mathbb Z_{N}^{(1)}$ center symmetry and a $0$-form $mathbb Z_{2Nn_f}^{dchi}$ discrete chiral symmetry, with a mixed t Hooft anomaly consistent with bulk/wall anomaly inflow. We argue that $mathbb Z_{N}^{(1)}$ is broken on the wall, and hence, Wilson loops obey the perimeter law. The breaking of the worldvolume center symmetry implies that bulk $p$-strings can end on the wall, a phenomenon first discovered using string-theoretic constructions. We invoke $2$-D bosonization and gauged Wess-Zumino-Witten models to suggest that $mathbb Z_{2Nn_f}^{dchi}$ is also broken in the IR, which implies that the $0$-form/$1$-form mixed t Hooft anomaly in the gapped $k$-wall theory is saturated by a topological quantum field theory. We also find interesting parallels between the physics of high-temperature domain walls studied here and domain walls between chiral symmetry breaking vacua in the zero temperature phase of the theory (studied earlier in the semiclassically calculable small spatial circle regime), arising from the similar mode of saturation of the relevant t Hooft anomalies.
