The freedom of fast iterations of distributed deep learning tasks is crucial for smaller companies to gain competitive advantages and market shares from big tech giants. HorovodRunner brings this process to relatively accessible spark clusters. There have been, however, no benchmark tests on HorovodRunner per se, nor specifically graph convolutional network (GCN, hereafter), and very limited scalability benchmark tests on Horovod, the predecessor requiring custom built GPU clusters. For the first time, we show that Databricks HorovodRunner achieves significant lift in scaling efficiency for the convolutional neural network (CNN, hereafter) based tasks on both GPU and CPU clusters, but not the original GCN task. We also implemented the Rectified Adam optimizer for the first time in HorovodRunner.
In this paper, we propose a novel tensor graph convolutional neural network (TGCNN) to conduct convolution on factorizable graphs, for which here two types of problems are focused, one is sequential dynamic graphs and the other is cross-attribute graphs. Especially, we propose a graph preserving layer to memorize salient nodes of those factorized subgraphs, i.e. cross graph convolution and graph pooling. For cross graph convolution, a parameterized Kronecker sum operation is proposed to generate a conjunctive adjacency matrix characterizing the relationship between every pair of nodes across two subgraphs. Taking this operation, then general graph convolution may be efficiently performed followed by the composition of small matrices, which thus reduces high memory and computational burden. Encapsuling sequence graphs into a recursive learning, the dynamics of graphs can be efficiently encoded as well as the spatial layout of graphs. To validate the proposed TGCNN, experiments are conducted on skeleton action datasets as well as matrix completion dataset. The experiment results demonstrate that our method can achieve more competitive performance with the state-of-the-art methods.
For the problem whether Graphic Processing Unit(GPU),the stream processor with high performance of floating-point computing is applicable to neural networks, this paper proposes the parallel recognition algorithm of Convolutional Neural Networks(CNNs).It adopts Compute Unified Device Architecture(CUDA)technology, definite the parallel data structures, and describes the mapping mechanism for computing tasks on CUDA. It compares the parallel recognition algorithm achieved on GPU of GTX200 hardware architecture with the serial algorithm on CPU. It improves speed by nearly 60 times. Result shows that GPU based the stream processor architecture ate more applicable to some related applications about neural networks than CPU.
Deep learning systems have been successfully applied to Euclidean data such as images, video, and audio. In many applications, however, information and their relationships are better expressed with graphs. Graph Convolutional Networks (GCNs) appear to be a promising approach to efficiently learn from graph data structures, having shown advantages in many critical applications. As with other deep learning modalities, hardware acceleration is critical. The challenge is that real-world graphs are often extremely large and unbalanced; this poses significant performance demands and design challenges. In this paper, we propose Autotuning-Workload-Balancing GCN (AWB-GCN) to accelerate GCN inference. To address the issue of workload imbalance in processing real-world graphs, three hardware-based autotuning techniques are proposed: dynamic distribution smoothing, remote switching, and row remapping. In particular, AWB-GCN continuously monitors the sparse graph pattern, dynamically adjusts the workload distribution among a large number of processing elements (up to 4K PEs), and, after converging, reuses the ideal configuration. Evaluation is performed using an Intel D5005 FPGA with five commonly-used datasets. Results show that 4K-PE AWB-GCN can significantly elevate PE utilization by 7.7x on average and demonstrate considerable performance speedups over CPUs (3255x), GPUs (80.3x), and a prior GCN accelerator (5.1x).
In this paper, we study the self-healing problem of unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) swarm network (USNET) that is required to quickly rebuild the communication connectivity under unpredictable external disruptions (UEDs). Firstly, to cope with the one-off UEDs, we propose a graph convolutional neural network (GCN) and find the recovery topology of the USNET in an on-line manner. Secondly, to cope with general UEDs, we develop a GCN based trajectory planning algorithm that can make UAVs rebuild the communication connectivity during the self-healing process. We also design a meta learning scheme to facilitate the on-line executions of the GCN. Numerical results show that the proposed algorithms can rebuild the communication connectivity of the USNET more quickly than the existing algorithms under both one-off UEDs and general UEDs. The simulation results also show that the meta learning scheme can not only enhance the performance of the GCN but also reduce the time complexity of the on-line executions.
Graph Convolutional Networks (GCNs) have received increasing attention in the machine learning community for effectively leveraging both the content features of nodes and the linkage patterns across graphs in various applications. As real-world graphs are often incomplete and noisy, treating them as ground-truth information, which is a common practice in most GCNs, unavoidably leads to sub-optimal solutions. Existing efforts for addressing this problem either involve an over-parameterized model which is difficult to scale, or simply re-weight observed edges without dealing with the missing-edge issue. This paper proposes a novel framework called Graph-Revised Convolutional Network (GRCN), which avoids both extremes. Specifically, a GCN-based graph revision module is introduced for predicting missing edges and revising edge weights w.r.t. downstream tasks via joint optimization. A theoretical analysis reveals the connection between GRCN and previous work on multigraph belief propagation. Experiments on six benchmark datasets show that GRCN consistently outperforms strong baseline methods by a large margin, especially when the original graphs are severely incomplete or the labeled instances for model training are highly sparse.
