This paper concerns twisted signature invariants of knots and 3-manifolds. In the fibered case, we reduce the computation of these invariants to the study of the intersection form and monodromy on the twisted homology of the fiber surface. Along the way, we use rings of power series to obtain new interpretations of the twisted Milnor pairing introduced by Kirk and Livingston. This allows us to relate these pairings to twisted Blanchfield pairings. Finally, we study the resulting signature invariants, all of which are twisted generalisations of the Levine-Tristram signature.

We give a new, conceptually simpler proof of the fact that knots in $S^3$ with positive L-space surgeries are fibered and strongly quasipositive. Our motivation for doing so is that this new proof uses comparatively little Heegaard Floer-specific machinery and can thus be translated to other forms of Floer homology. We carried this out for instanton Floer homology in our recent article Instantons and L-space surgeries, and used it to generalize Kronheimer and Mrowkas results on $SU(2)$ representations of fundamental groups of Dehn surgeries.

We generalize unoriented handlebody-links to the twisted virtual case, obtaining Reidemeister moves for handlebody-links in ambient spaces of the form $Sigmatimes [0,1]$ for $Sigma$ a compact closed 2-manifold up to stable equivalence. We introduce a related algebraic structure known as twisted virtual bikeigebras whose axioms are motivated by the twisted virtual handlebody-link Reidemeister moves. We use twisted virtual bikeigebras to define $X$-colorability for twisted virtual handlebody-links and define an integer-valued invariant $Phi_{X}^{mathbb{Z}}$ of twisted virtual handlebody-links. We provide example computations of the new invariants and use them to distinguish some twisted virtual handlebody-links.

We study finite type invariants of nullhomologous knots in a closed 3-manifold $M$ defined in terms of certain descending filtration ${mathscr{K}_n(M)}_{ngeq 0}$ of the vector space $mathscr{K}(M)$ spanned by isotopy classes of nullhomologous knots in $M$. The filtration ${mathscr{K}_n(M)}_{n geq 0}$ is defined by surgeries on special kinds of claspers in $M$ having one special leaf. More precisely, when $M$ is fibered over $S^1$ and $H_1(M)=mathbb{Z}$, we study how far the natural surgery map from the space of $mathbb{Q}[t^{pm 1}]$-colored Jacobi diagrams on $S^1$ of degree $n$ to the graded quotient $mathscr{K}_n(M)/mathscr{K}_{n+1}(M)$ can be injective for $nleq 2$. To do this, we construct a finite type invariant of nullhomologous knots in $M$ up to degree 2 that is an analogue of the invariant given in our previous paper arXiv:1503.08735, which is based on Lescops construction of $mathbb{Z}$-equivariant perturbative invariant of 3-manifolds.
In this paper we show that the twisted Alexander polynomial associated to a parabolic representation determines fiberedness and genus of a wide class of 2-bridge knots. As a corollary we give an affirmative answer to a conjecture of Dunfield, Friedl and Jackson for infinitely many hyperbolic knots.

Let $H(p)$ be the set of 2-bridge knots $K$ whose group $G$ is mapped onto a non-trivial free product, $Z/2 * Z/p$, $p$ being odd. Then there is an algebraic integer $s_0$ such that for any $K$ in $H(p)$, $G$ has a parabolic representation $rho$ into $SL(2, Z[s_0]) subset SL(2,C)$. Let $Delta(t)$ be the twisted Alexander polynomial associated to $rho$. Then we prove that for any $K$ in $H(p)$, $Delta(1)=-2s_0^{-1}$ and $Delta(-1)=-2s_0^{-1}mu^2$, where $s_0^{-1}, mu in Z[s_0]$. The number $mu$ can be recursively evaluated.
