A class of special holonomy spaces arise as nilmanifolds fibred over a line interval and are dual to intersecting brane solutions of string theory. Further dualities relate these to T-folds, exotic branes, essentially doubled spaces and spaces with R-flux. We develop the doubled geometry of these spaces, with the various duals arising as different slices of the doubled space.

We show that all fermions of one generation of the Standard Model (SM) can be elegantly described by a single fixed parity (say even) inhomogeneous real-valued differential form in seven dimensions. In this formalism the full kinetic term of the SM fermionic Lagrangian is reproduced as the appropriate dimensional reduction of (Psi, D Psi) where Psi is a general even degree differential form in R^7, the inner product is as described in the main text, and D is essentially an appropriately interpreted exterior derivative operator. The new formalism is based on geometric constructions originating in the subjects of generalised geometry and double field theory.

The section condition of Double Field Theory has been argued to mean that doubled coordinates are gauged: a gauge orbit represents a single physical point. In this note, we consider a doubled and at the same time gauged particle action, and show that its BRST formulation including Faddeev--Popov ghosts matches with the graded Poisson geometry that has been recently used to describe the symmetries of Double Field Theory. Besides, by requiring target spacetime diffeomorphisms at the quantum level, we derive quantum corrections to the classical action involving dilaton, which might be comparable with the Fradkin--Tseytlin term on string worldsheet.
The integration problem of a C-bracket and a Vaisman (metric, pre-DFT) algebroid which are geometric structures of double field theory (DFT) is analyzed. We introduce a notion of a pre-rackoid as a global group-like object for an infinitesimal algebroid structure. We propose that several realizations of pre-rackoid structures. One realization is that elements of a pre-rackoid are defined by cotangent paths along doubled foliations in a para-Hermitian manifold. Another realization is proposed as a formal exponential map of the algebroid of DFT. We show that the pre-rackoid reduces to a rackoid that is the integration of the Courant algebroid when the strong constraint of DFT is imposed. Finally, for a physical application, we exhibit an implementation of the (pre-)rackoid in a three-dimensional topological sigma model.

We revisit partition functions of closed strings on toroidal backgrounds, including their $mathbb{Z}_N$ shift orbifolds in the formalism where the dimension of the target space is doubled to make T-duality manifest. In such a T-duality covariant formalism, the constraint equation imposes a form of chiral factorization. Our computation furnishes a non-trivial consistency check for the quantum worldsheet theory of the doubled sigma model, when strings are placed on general toroidal backgrounds. The topological term that mixes the physical space and its T-dual is crucial in demonstrating that chiral factorization works, and that we obtain the correct partition function after imposing the constraints. Finally, we discuss how our results extend to $mathcal{N}=1$ worldsheet supersymmetry and string worldsheets of higher genus.

We construct a world-sheet action for Green-Schwarz superstring in terms of doubled-yet-gauged spacetime coordinates. For an arbitrarily curved NS-NS background, the action possesses $mathbf{O}(10,10)$ T-duality, $mathbf{Spin}(1,9)timesmathbf{Spin}(9,1)$ Lorentz symmetry, coordinate gauge symmetry, spacetime doubled-yet-gauged diffeomorphisms, world-sheet diffeomorphisms and Weyl symmetry. Further, restricted to flat backgrounds, it enjoys maximal spacetime supersymmetry and kappa-symmetry. After the auxiliary coordinate gauge symmetry potential being integrated out, our action can consistently reduce to the original undoubled Green-Schwarz action. Thanks to the twofold spin groups, the action is unique: it is specific choices of the NS-NS backgrounds that distinguish IIA or IIB, as well as lead to non-Riemannian or non-relativistic superstring a la Gomis-Ooguri which might deserve the nomenclature, type IIC.
