We present a preliminary study on the possibility to search for massive long-lived electrically charged particles at the MoEDAL detector. MoEDAL is sensitive to highly ionising objects such as magnetic monopoles or massive (meta-)stable electrically charged particles and we focus on the latter in this paper. Requirements on triggering or reducing the cosmic-ray and cavern background, applied in the ATLAS and CMS analyses for long-lived particles, are not necessary at MoEDAL, due to its completely different detector design and extremely low background. On the other hand, MoEDAL requires slow-moving particles, resulting in sensitivity to massive states with typically small production cross sections. Using Monte Carlo simulations, we compare the sensitivities of MoEDAL versus ATLAS/CMS for various long-lived particles in supersymmetric models, and we seek a scenario where MoEDAL can provide discovery reach complementary to ATLAS and CMS.

We present a study on the possibility of searching for long-lived supersymmetric partners with the MoEDAL experiment at the LHC. MoEDAL is sensitive to highly ionising objects such as magnetic monopoles or massive (meta)stable electrically charged particles. We focus on prospects of directly detecting long-lived sleptons in a phenomenologically realistic model which involves an intermediate neutral long-lived particle in the decay chain. This scenario is not yet excluded by the current data from ATLAS or CMS, and is compatible with astrophysical constraints. Using Monte Carlo simulation, we compare the sensitivities of MoEDAL versus ATLAS in scenarios where MoEDAL could provide discovery reach complementary to ATLAS and CMS, thanks to looser selection criteria combined with the virtual absence of background. It is also interesting to point out that, in such scenarios, in which charged staus are the main long-lived candidates, the relevant mass range for MoEDAL is compatible with a potential role of Supersymmetry in providing an explanation for the anomalous events observed by the ANITA detector.
The lack of a new physics signal thus far at the Large Hadron Collider motivates us to consider how to look for challenging final states, with large Standard Model backgrounds and subtle kinematic features, such as cascade decays with compressed spectra. Adopting a benchmark SUSY-like decay topology with a four-body final state proceeding through a sequence of two-body decays via intermediate resonances, we focus our attention on the kinematic variable $Delta_{4}$ which previously has been used to parameterize the boundary of the allowed four-body phase space. We highlight the advantages of using $Delta_{4}$ as a discovery variable, and present an analysis suggesting that the pairing of $Delta_{4}$ with another invariant mass variable leads to a significant improvement over more conventional variable choices and techniques.

We investigate the prospects for the discovery of a neutral Higgs boson produced in association with a $b$ quark, followed by the Higgs decay into a pair of bottom quarks, $pp to bphi^0 to b bbar{b} +X$, at the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC) within the framework of unified supersymmetric models. The Higgs boson $phi^0$ can be a heavy scalar $H^0$ or a pseudoscalar $A^0$. Furthermore, this direct discovery channel is compared with the indirect Higgs searches in the rare decay $B_s to mu^+mu^-$ at hadron colliders. Promising results are found for the minimal supergravity (mSUGRA) model, the anomaly mediated supersymmetry breaking (AMSB) model, and the gauge mediated supersymmetry breaking (GMSB) model. We find that the indirect search for $B(B_s to mu^+mu^-) ge 5times 10^{-9}$ is complementary to the direct search for $bphi^0 to bbbar{b}$ with $sqrt{s} = 14$ TeV and an integrated luminosity ($L$) of 300 fb$^{-1}$. In the AMSB and GMSB models, $bphi^0 to bbbar{b}$ with $L = 300$ fb$^{-1}$ covers a larger area in the parameter space than $B(B_s to mu^+mu^-) ge 5times 10^{-9}$. In addition, we present constraints from $b to sgamma$ and muon anomalous dipole moment ($Delta a_mu$) on the parameter space.
Under the expectation that nature is natural, we extend the Standard Model to include SUSY to stabilize the electroweak sector and PQ symmetry to stabilize the QCD sector. Then natural SUSY arises from a Kim-Nilles solution to the SUSY mu problem which allows for a little hierarchy where mu ~ f_a^2/M_P ~ 100-300 GeV while the SUSY particle mass scale m(SUSY)~ 1-10 TeV >> mu. Dark matter then consists of two particles: a higgsino-like WIMP and a SUSY DFSZ axion. The range of allowed axion mass values m(axion) depends on the mixed axion-higgsino relic density. The range of m(axion) is actually restricted in this case by limits on WIMPs from direct and indirect detection experiments. We plot the expected axion detection rate at microwave cavity experiments. The axion-photon-photon coupling is severely diminished by charged higgsino contributions to the anomalous coupling. In this case, the axion may retreat, at least temporarily, back into the regime of near invisibility. From our results, we urge new ideas for techniques which probe both deeper and more broadly into axion coupling versus axion mass parameter space.
We show that a top-prime quark as heavy as 600 GeV can be discovered at the Tevatron, provided it is resonantly pair-produced via a vector color octet. If the top-prime originates from a vectorlike quark, then the production of a single top-prime in association with a top may also be observable, even through its decay into a Higgs boson and a top. A color octet with mass of about 1 TeV, which decays into a top-prime pair, may account for the CDF excess of semileptonic (Wj)(Wj) events.
