Manipulating the excitation of resonant electric and magnetic multipole moments in structured dielectric media has unlocked many sophisticated electromagnetic functionalities. This article demonstrates the experimental realization of a broadband Huygens source. This Huygens source consists of a spherical particle that exhibits a well-defined forward-scattering pattern across more than an octave-spanning spectral band at GHz frequencies, where the scattering in the entire backward hemisphere is suppressed. Two different low-index nonmagnetic spheres are studied that differ in their permittivity. This causes them to offer a different shape for the forward-scattering pattern. The theoretical understanding of this broadband feature is based on the approximate equality of the resonant electric and magnetic multipole moments in both amplitude and phase in low permittivity spheres. This is a key condition to approximate the electromagnetic duality symmetry which, together with the spherical symmetry, suppresses the backscattering. With such a configuration, broadband Huygens sources can be designed even if magnetic materials are unavailable. This article provides guidelines for designing broadband Huygens sources using low-index spheres that could be valuable to a plethora of applications.

The paper includes two contributions. First, it proves that the series and shunt radiation components, corresponding to longitudinal and transversal electric fields, respectively, are always in phase quadrature in axially asymmetric periodic leaky-wave antennas (LWAs), so that these antennas are inherently elliptically polarized. This fact is theoretically proven and experimentally illustrated by two case-study examples, a composite right/left-handed (CRLH) LWA and a series-fed patch (SFP) LWA. Second, it shows (for the case of the SFP LWA) that the axial ratio is controlled and minimized by the degree of axial asymmetry.
We demonstrate an unconditional high-fidelity teleporter capable of preserving the broadband entanglement in an optical squeezed state. In particular, we teleport a squeezed state of light and observe $-0.8 pm 0.2$dB of squeezing in the teleported (output) state. We show that the squeezing criterion translates directly into a sufficient criterion for entanglement of the upper and lower sidebands of the optical field. Thus, this result demonstrates the first unconditional teleportation of broadband entanglement. Our teleporter achieves sufficiently high fidelity to allow the teleportation to be cascaded, enabling, in principle, the construction of deterministic non-Gaussian operations.
Exceptional points (EPs) associated with a square-root singularity have been found in many non-Hermitian systems. In most of the studies, the EPs found are isotropic meaning that the same singular behavior is obtained independent of the direction from which they are approached in the parameter space. In this work, we demonstrate both theoretically and experimentally the existence of an anisotropic EP in an acoustic system that shows different singular behaviors when the anisotropic EP is approached from different directions in the parameter space. Such an anisotropic EP arises from the coalescence of two square-root EPs having the same chirality.

Generating photon pairs via spontaneous parametric down-conversion (SPDC) in nonlinear crystals is important for a wide range of quantum optics experiments with spectral properties such as their bandwidths often being a crucial concern. Here, we show the generic existence of particular phase-matching conditions in quasi-phase matched KTP, MgO:LN and SLT crystals that lead to ultra-broadband, widely non-degenerate photon pairs. It is based on the existence of group-velocity matched, far apart wavelength pairs and for 2 mm long crystals results in SPDC bandwidths between 15 and 25 THz (FWHM) for photon pairs with the idler photon in the technologically relevant mid-IR range 3-5 {mu}m and the signal photon in the NIR below 1100 nm. We experimentally demonstrate this type of broadband phase-matching in ppKTP crystals for photon pairs centered at 800 nm and 3800 nm and measure a bandwidth of 15 THz. This novel method of generating broadband photon-pairs will be highly beneficial for SPDC-based imaging, spectroscopy, refractometry and OCT with undetected mid-IR photons.
