Vacuum solutions of Lovelock gravity in the presence of a recurrent null vector field (a subset of Kundt spacetimes) are studied. We first discuss the general field equations, which constrain both the base space and the profile functions. While choosing a generic base space puts stronger constraints on the profile, in special cases there also exist solutions containing arbitrary functions (at least for certain values of the coupling constants). These and other properties (such as the pp-waves subclass and the overlap with VSI, CSI and universal spacetimes) are subsequently analyzed in more detail in lower dimensions $n=5,6$ as well as for particular choices of the base manifold. The obtained solutions describe various classes of non-expanding gravitational waves propagating, e.g., in Nariai-like backgrounds $M_2timesSigma_{n-2}$. An appendix contains some results about general (i.e., not necessarily Kundt) Lovelock vacua of Riemann type III/N, and of Weyl and traceless-Ricci type III/N. For example, it is pointed out that for theories admitting a triply degenerate maximally symmetric vacuum, all the (reduced) field equations are satisfied identically, giving rise to large classes of exact solutions.

The present work aims to explore the model given by Lanczos-Lovelock gravity theories indexed by a fixed integer to require a unique anti-de Sitter vacuum, dressed by a scalar field non-minimal coupling. For this model, we add a special matter source characterized by a non-linear Maxwell field coupling with a function depending on the scalar field. Computing its thermodynamics parameters by using the Euclidean action, we obtain interesting and non zero thermodynamical quantities, unlike its original version, allowing analyzing thermodynamical stability. Together with the above, we found that these solutions satisfy the First Law of Thermodynamics as well as a Smarr relation.
A four-dimensional regularization of Lovelock-Lanczos gravity up to an arbitrary curvature order is considered. We show that Lovelock-Lanczos terms can provide a non-trivial contribution to the Einstein field equations in four dimensions, for spherically symmetric and Friedmann-Lema^{i}tre-Robertson-Walker spacetimes, as well as at first order in perturbation theory around (anti) de Sitter vacua. We will discuss the cosmological and black hole solutions arising from these theories, focusing on the presence of attractors and their stability. Although curvature singularities persist for any finite number of Lovelock terms, it is shown that they disappear in the non-perturbative limit of a theory with a unique vacuum.
The recently proposed regularized Lovelock tensors are kinetically coupled to the scalar field. The resulting equation of motion is second order. In particular, it is found that when the $p=3$ regularized Lovelock tensor is kinetically coupled to the scalar field, the scalar field is the potential candidate of cosmic dark energy.
We construct rotating boson stars in (4+1)-dimensional asymptotically Anti-de Sitter space-time (aAdS) with two equal angular momenta that are composed out of a massive and self-interacting scalar field. These solutions possess a single Killing vector field. We construct explicit solutions of the equations in the case of a fixed AdS background and vanishing self-coupling of the scalar field. These are the generalizations of the oscillons discussed in the literature previously now taking the mass of the scalar field into account. We study the evolution of the spectrum of massive oscillons when taking backreaction and/or the self-coupling into account numerically. We observe that very compact boson stars possess an ergoregion.
We derive the Hamiltonian for spherically symmetric Lovelock gravity using the geometrodynamics approach pioneered by Kuchav{r} in the context of four-dimensional general relativity. When written in terms of the areal radius, the generalized Misner-Sharp mass and their conjugate momenta, the generic Lovelock action and Hamiltonian take on precisely the same simple forms as in general relativity. This result supports the interpretation of Lovelock gravity as the natural higher-dimensional extension of general relativity. It also provides an important first step towards the study of the quantum mechanics, Hamiltonian thermodynamics and formation of generic Lovelock black holes.
