In conventional s-wave superconductors, only magnetic impurities exhibit impurity bound states, whereas for an s+- order parameter they can occur for both magnetic and non-magnetic impurities. Impurity bound states in superconductors can thus provide important insight into the order parameter. Here, we present a combined experimental and theoretical study of native and engineered iron-site defects in LiFeAs. Detailed comparison of tunneling spectra measured on impurities with spin fluctuation theory reveals a continuous evolution from negligible impurity bound state features for weaker scattering potential to clearly detectable states for somewhat stronger scattering potentials. All bound states for these intermediate strength potentials are pinned at or close to the gap edge of the smaller gap, a phenomenon that we explain and ascribe to multi-orbital physics.

We study by Variational Monte Carlo an extended Hubbard model away from half filled band density which contains two competing nearest-neighbor interactions: a superexchange $J$ favoring d-wave superconductivity and a repulsion $V$ opposing against it. We find that the on-site repulsion $U$ effectively enhances the strength of $J$ meanwhile suppressing that of $V$, thus favoring superconductivity. This result shows that attractions which do not involve charge fluctuations are very well equipped against strong electron-electron repulsion so much to get advantage from it.

We have performed high-resolution angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy on Fe-based superconductor LiFeAs (Tc = 18 K). We reveal multiple nodeless superconducting (SC) gaps with 2D/kBTc ratios varying from 2.8 to 6.4, depending on the Fermi surface (FS). We also succeeded in directly observing a gap anisotropy along the FS with magnitude up to ~30 %. The anisotropy is four-fold symmetric with an antiphase between the hole and electron FSs, suggesting complex anisotropic interactions for the SC pairing. The observed momentum dependence of the SC gap offers an excellent opportunity to investigate the underlying pairing mechanism.
We analyze how the magnetic disorder affects the properties of the two-band $s_pm$ and $s_{++}$ models, which are subject of hot discussions regarding iron-based superconductors and other multiband systems like MgB$_2$. We show that there are several cases when the transition temperature $T_c$ is not fully suppressed by magnetic impurities in contrast to the Abrikosov-Gorkov theory, but a saturation of $T_c$ takes place in the regime of strong disorder. These cases are: (1) the purely interband impurity scattering, (2) the unitary scattering limit. We show that in the former case the $s_pm$ gap is preserved, while the $s_{++}$ state transforms into the $s_pm$ state with increasing magnetic disorder. For the case (2), the gap structure remains intact.
We report synthesis of Co substitution at Fe site in Fe1-xCoxSe0.5Te0.5 (x=0.0 to 0.10) single crystals via vacuum shield solid state reaction route using flux free method. Single crystal XRD results showed that these crystals grow in (00l) plane i.e., orientation in c-direction. All the crystals possess tetragonal structure having P4/nmm space group. Detailed scanning electron microscopy (SEM) images show that the crystals are grown in slab-like morphology. The EDAX results revealed the final elemental composition to be near stoichiometric. Powder X-Ray diffraction (PXRD) Rietveld analysis results show that (00l) peaks are shifted towards higher angle with increasing Co concentration. Both a and c lattice parameters decrease with increasing Co concentration in Fe1-xCoxSe0.5Te0.5 (x=0.0 to 0.10) single crystals. Low temperature transport and magnetic measurements show that the superconducting transition temperature (Tc), decreases from around 12K to 10K and 4K for x=0.03 and x=0.05 respectively. For x=0.10 crystal superconductivity is not observed down to 2K.
We studied effect of non-magnetic and magnetic impurities on superconductivity in Lu$_2$Fe$_3$Si$_5$ by small amount substitution of the Lu site, which investigated structural, magnetic, and electrical properties of non-magnetic (Lu$_{1-x}$Sc$_x$)$_2$Fe$_3$Si$_5$, (Lu$_{1-x}$Y$_x$)$_2$Fe$_3$Si$_5$, and magnetic (Lu$_{1-x}$Dy$_x$)$_2$Fe$_3$Si$_5$. The rapid depression of $T_c$ by non-magnetic impurities in accordance with the increase of residual resistivity reveals the strong pair breaking dominated by disorder. We provide compelling evidence for the sign reversal of the superconducting order parameter in Lu$_2$Fe$_3$Si$_5$.
