We have introduced Faddeev-Niemi type variables for static SU(3) Yang-Mills theory. The variables suggest that a non-linear sigma model whose sigma fields take values in SU(3)/(U(1)xU(1)) and SU(3)/(SU(2)xU(1)) may be relevant to infrared limit of the theory. Shabanov showed that the energy functional of the non-linear sigma model is bounded from below by certain functional. However, the Shabanovs functional is not homotopy invariant, and its value can be an arbitrary real number -- therefore it is not a topological charge. Since the third homotopy group of SU(3)/(U(1)xU(1)) is isomorphic to the group of integer numbers, there is a non-trivial topological charge (given by the isomorphism). We apply Novikovs procedure to obtain integral expression for this charge. The resulting formula is analogous to the Whiteheads realization of the Hopf invariant.

We apply the dressing method on the Non Linear Sigma Model (NLSM), which describes the propagation of strings on $mathbb{R}times mathrm{S}^2$, for an arbitrary seed. We obtain a formal solution of the corresponding auxiliary system, which is expressed in terms of the solutions of the NLSM that have the same Pohlmeyer counterpart as the seed. Accordingly, we show that the dressing method can be applied without solving any differential equations. In this context a superposition principle emerges: The dressed solution is expressed as a non-linear superposition of the seed with solutions of the NLSM with the same Pohlmeyer counterpart as the seed.
Recently it has been pointed out that the Faddeev-Niemi equations that correspond to the Yang-Mills equations of motion for a decomposed gauge field, can have solutions that obey the standard Yang-Mills equations with a source term. Here we present a general class of such gauge field configurations.

In this paper, we investigate tree-level scattering amplitude relations in $U(N)$ non-linear sigma model. We use Cayley parametrization. As was shown in the recent works [23,24] both on-shell amplitudes and off-shell currents with odd points have to vanish under Cayley parametrization. We prove the off-shell $U(1)$ identity and fundamental BCJ relation for even-point currents. By taking the on-shell limits of the off-shell relations, we show that the color-ordered tree amplitudes with even points satisfy $U(1)$-decoupling identity and fundamental BCJ relation, which have the same formations within Yang-Mills theory. We further state that all the on-shell general KK, BCJ relations as well as the minimal-basis expansion are also satisfied by color-ordered tree amplitudes. As a consequence of the relations among color-ordered amplitudes, the total $2m$-point tree amplitudes satisfy DDM form of color decomposition as well as KLT relation.

A topological lower bound on the Skyrme energy which depends explicity on the pion mass is derived. This bound coincides with the previously best known bound when the pion mass vanishes, and improves on it whenever the pion mass is non-zero. The new bound can in particular circumstances be saturated. New energy bounds are also derived for the Skyrme model on a compact manifold, for the Faddeev-Skyrme model with a potential term, and for the Aratyn-Ferreira-Zimerman and Nicole models.
We discuss the A-model as a gauge fixing of the Poisson Sigma Model with target a symplectic structure. We complete the discussion in [arXiv:0706.3164], where a gauge fixing defined by a compatible complex structure was introduced, by showing how to recover the A-model hierarchy of observables in terms of the AKSZ observables. Moreover, we discuss the off-shell supersymmetry of the A-model as a residual BV symmetry of the gauge-fixed PSM action.
