We study the disorder effect of resonant spin Hall effect in a two-dimension electron system with Rashba coupling in the presence of a tilted magnetic field. The competition between the Rashba coupling and the Zeeman coupling leads to the energy crossing of the Landau levels, which gives rise to the resonant spin Hall effect. Utilizing the Stredas formula within the self-consistent Born approximation, we find that the impurity scattering broadens the energy levels, and the resonant spin Hall conductance exhibits a double peak around the resonant point, which is recovered in an applied titled magnetic field.

The experimental verification of chiral anomaly in Weyl semimetals is an active area of investigation in modern condensed matter physics, which typically relies on the combined signatures of longitudinal magnetoconductance (LMC) along with the planar Hall effect (PHE). It has recently been shown that for weak non-quantizing magnetic fields, a sufficiently strong finite intervalley scattering drives the system to switch the sign of LMC from positive to negative. Here we unravel another independent source that produces the same effect. Specifically, a smooth lattice cutoff to the linear dispersion, which is ubiquitous in real Weyl materials, introduces nonlinearity in the problem and also drives the system to exhibit negative LMC for non-collinear electric and magnetic fields even in the limit of vanishing intervalley scattering. We examine longitudinal magnetoconductivity and the planar Hall effect semi-analytically for a lattice model of tilted Weyl fermions within the Boltzmann approximation. We independently study the effects of a finite lattice cutoff and tilt parameters and construct phase diagrams in relevant parameter spaces that are relevant for diagnosing chiral anomaly in real Weyl materials.
We study theoretically resonant tunneling of composite fermions through their quasi-bound states around a fractional quantum Hall island, and find a rich set of possible transitions of the island state as a function of the magnetic field or the backgate voltage. These considerations have possible relevance to a recent experimental study, and bring out many subtleties involved in deducing fractional braiding statistics.
We study the dynamic chiral magnetic conductivity (DCMC) and natural optical activity in an inversion-broken tilted Weyl semimetal (WSM). Starting from the Kubo formula, we derive the analytical expressions for the DCMC for two different directions of the incident electromagnetic wave. We show that the angle of rotation of the plane of polarization of the transmitted wave exhibits remarkable anisotropic behavior and is larger along the tilt direction. This striking anisotropy of DCMC which results in anisotropic optical activity and rotary power, can be experimentally observed as a topological magneto-electric effect of inversion-broken tilted WSMs. Finally, using the low energy Hamiltonian, we show that the DCMC follows the universal $frac{1}{omega^2}$ decay in the high frequency regime. In the low frequency regime, however, the DCMC shows sharp peaks at the tilt dependent effective chemical potentials of the left-handed and right-handed Weyl points. This can serve as a signature to distinguish between the type-I and type-II Weyl semimetals.

We discuss the transport properties of a quantum spin-Hall insulator with sizable Rashba spin-orbit coupling in a disk geometry. The presence of topologically protected helical edge states allows for the control and manipulation of spin polarized currents: when ferromagnetic leads are coupled to the quantum spin-Hall device, the ballistic conductance is modulated by the Rashba strength. Therefore, by tuning the Rashba interaction via an all-electric gating, it is possible to control the spin polarization of injected electrons.

We study the spin Nernst effect of a mesoscopic four-terminal cross-bar device with the Rashba spin-orbit interaction (SOI) in the absence of a magnetic field. The interplay between the spin Nernst effect and the seebeck coefficient is investigated for a wide range of the Rashba SOI. When no peaks appeared in the seebeck coefficient, an oscillatory spin Nernst effect still occurs. In addition, the disorder effect on the spin Nernst effect is also studied. We find that the spin Nernst effect can be enhanced up to threefold by disorder. Besides, due to the interface effect, the counter propagating of the charge current to the direction of the temperature gradient is possible for a nonuniform system.
