The high energy program of the HERA collider ended in March 2007. In total the H1 and ZEUS experiments collected an integrated luminosity of about 1 fb$^{-1}$. Recent results of model independent searches for new physics from both experiments are presented. Specifically, studies of the events with an isolated lepton and missing transverse momentum and multi-lepton topologies, where H1 and ZEUS data are combined, and a general signature based search are discussed.

Recent results from searches for physics beyond the Standard Model (SM) in electron/positron-proton collisions at HERA at center-of-mass energies of 300 and 320 GeV are presented. They were performed on a data sample collected in the period 1994-2004 by the H1 and ZEUS collaborations. The data have been analysed searching for leptoquarks, light gravitinos in R-parity violating supersymmetric models and magnetic monopoles. Results of a general search for new phenomena at high transverse momentum and of a dedicated search for events with isolated leptons and missing transverse momentum are also reported.

Model-independent techniques for CP violation searches in multi-body charm decays are discussed. Examples of recent analyses from BaBar and LHCb are used to illustrate the experimental challenges involved.
Techniques for performing model-independent searches for direct CP violation in three and four-body decays are discussed. Comments on the performance and the optimisation of a binned chisquare approach and an unbinned approach, known as the energy test, are made. The use of the energy test in the presence of background is also studied. The selection and treatment of the coordinates used to describe the phase-space of the decay are discussed. The conventional model-independent techniques, which test for P-even CP violation, are modified to create a new approach for testing for P-odd CP violation. An implementation of the energy test using GPUs is described.
Thus far the LHC experiments have yet to discover beyond-the-standard-model physics. This motivates efforts to search for new physics in model independent ways. In this spirit, we describe procedures for using a variant of the Matrix Element Method to search for new physics without regard to a specific signal hypothesis. To make the resulting variables more intuitive, we also describe how these variables can be flattened, which makes the resulting distributions more visually meaningful.
A search for single-top production, $ep rightarrow etX$, has been performed with the ZEUS detector at HERA using data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $0.37fbi$. No evidence for top production was found, consistent with the expectation from the Standard Model. Limits were computed for single-top production via flavour changing neutral current transitions. The result was combined with a previous ZEUS result yielding a total luminosity of 0.50fb-1. A 95% credibility level upper limit of 0.13 pb was obtained for the cross section at the centre-of-mass energy of $sqrt{s}=315gev$.
