We construct nonlinear extensions of Diracs relativistic electron equation that preserve its other desirable properties such as locality, separability, conservation of probability and Poincare invariance. We determine the constraints that the nonlinear term must obey and classify the resultant non-polynomial nonlinearities in a double expansion in the degree of nonlinearity and number of derivatives. We give explicit examples of such nonlinear equations, studying their discrete symmetries and other properties. Motivated by some previously suggested applications we then consider nonlinear terms that simultaneously violate Lorentz covariance and again study various explicit examples. We contrast our equations and construction procedure with others in the literature and also show that our equations are not gauge equivalent to the linear Dirac equation. Finally we outline various physical applications for these equations.

We prove the existence of infinitely many non square-integrable stationary solutions for a family of massless Dirac equations in 2D. They appear as effective equations in two dimensional honeycomb structures. We give a direct existence proof thanks to a particular radial ansatz, which also allows to provide the exact asymptotic behavior of spinor components. Moreover, those solutions admit a variational characterization. We also indicate how the content of the present paper allows to extend our previous results for the massive case [5] to more general nonlinearities.
We develop analytical methods for nonlinear Dirac equations. Examples of such equations include Dirac-harmonic maps with curvature term and the equations describing the generalized Weierstrass representation of surfaces in three-manifolds. We provide the key analytical steps, i.e., small energy regularity and removable singularity theorems and energy identities for solutions.
We establish covariant semiclassical transport equations of massive spin-1/2 particles which are generated by the quantum kinetic equation modified by enthalpy current dependent terms. The purpose of modification is to take into account the noninertial properties due to the angular velocity of rotating frame which is equivalent to the fluid vorticity in hydrodynamical approach. We present the equations satisfied by the Wigner function components and by studying their solution in the semiclassical approximation we accomplish the transport equations. To acquire a three-dimensional kinetic theory, the relativistic kinetic equations in the comoving frame are integrated over the zeroth component of four-momentum. The resulting vector and axial-vector currents are calculated at zero temperature. There exists another three-dimensional formulation of Dirac particles which correctly addresses the noninertial features of rotating coordinates. We review it briefly and obtain the mass corrections to the chiral vector and axial-vector currents produced by this formulation.

We consider the stability problem for standing waves of nonlinear Dirac models. Under a suitable definition of linear stability, and under some restriction on the spectrum, we prove at the same time orbital and asymptotic stability. We are not able to get the full result proved by Cuccagna for the nonlinear Schrodinger equation, because of the strong indefiniteness of the energy.

An efficient solution of the Dirac Hamiltonian flow equations has been proposed through a novel expandsion with the inverse of the Dirac effective mass. The efficiency and accuracy of this new expansion have been demonstrated by reducing a radial Dirac Hamiltonian with large scalar and vector potentials to two nonrelativistic Hamiltonians corresponding to particles and antiparticles, respectively. By solving the two nonrelativistic Hamiltonians, it is found that the exact solutions of the Dirac equation, for both particles and antiparticles, can be reproduced with a high accuracy up to only a few lowest order terms in the expansion. This could help compare and bridge the relativistic and nonrelativistic nuclear energy density functional theories in the future.
