Hydramnios in the Department of Obstetrics, Damascus «Reality and Ambition in the Light of New Research in the Diagnosis and Management»


Abstract in English

- Purpose: To study the reality of hydramnion in the Department. To use the Amnionic Fluid Index ( AFI ) sonarographycally for severity classification of hydramnion .To use Indomethacin for tretment and to study it`s effect on the fetal cardiac system. - Methodology: Prospective study. - Setting: Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Damascus. - Subject: 132 women with hydramnios and 194 with uneventfull pregnancy. - Results: Prevalence rate is (0,85 %). The cause is known in (53,8%) of cases and the most common cause was a defect in the fetal nervous system. Most cases are classified by AFI as severe in (53,6%). All symptoms of hydramnios are decreased by using Indomethacin and the fetal cardiac system was not affected. - Conclusion: The medical tretment of hydramnios is effective and does n`t affect the fetal cardiac system . But, imperative research be continued.
