Psychometric properties of the Adult Edition of Toulouse Self-Esteem Scale (A Field Study in the City of Lattakia)


Abstract in English

This study aims to extract the psychometric properties of the adult edition of Toulouse self-esteem scale. The scale was translated from French to Arabic and it was introduced to a set of Arabic language specialists to ensure good paraphrasing, and then it was re-translated to the original language (French) to ensure the accuracy of the translation. The Scale was implemented on a random sample consisting of 500 adults in Latakia city. The study results indicate a high level of validity of the scale and high degree scale of reliability identical with the statistical indicators to of the French version of the scale. Subsequently a series of hypotheses was tested which showed that there was no difference between male and female means degrees on the scale except the social self field. Also, it was found that there are statistical differences by educational level of respondents in favor of postgraduate and graduate degrees. The differences on scale dimensions according to the taxonomic variables (gender and educational level) were studied too. The research suggested further studies on the scale in different environments and the necessity to be used in educational and psychological fields.
