A Study of the Geographic Location Influence on Inter-Port Relations “A Case Study of Latakia and Tartous Seaports “


Abstract in English

The research objective is to perceive the nature of relationship between Latakia and Tartous ports with the other seaports of the Mediterranean and Black Sea regions, identifying whether it is integrating, competing or neutral relations, in the meantime, another research objective arises, it is to analyze the influence of the geographic location on these regions’ sea ports inter-relationship, the research concluded the presence of a competing relationship between Latakia and Tartous against the ports of Mersin, Beirut, Haifa, Ashdod, on the contrary, there has proved a cooperative and integrative relationship between the Egyptian Ports of Port Said, Damietta and Alexandria, the same relation with a lower degree with the other Arabian ports and the Syrian trade partners sea ports , while other ports were neutral ,the research concluded the importance of making use of the comparative advantages enabled by the geographic location of Latakia and Tartous ports, also the importance of developing its port capacity and facilities, focusing on improving their performance, productivity and the application of effective marketing policies.
