Academic Qualifying of Library and Information Specialists in the Twenty-first Century


Abstract in English

Teaching library and information science has been under pressure in the last decades to shift and reorganize the fundamental approach to the traditional library profession to an information technology studies in the first phase and postgraduate levels. The impact of the labour market and the introduction of ICT was clear to the ideas and concepts of traditional libraries and library studies to become more stable at universities. Such studies rely on research and respond to the requirements of university academic interests in addition to the skills and disciplines required for the labour market. Libraries and Information Department at Damascus University keeps developing the curriculum to be compatible with the rapid developments in this area.
