The nuclear transparency and the distorted momentum distributions of 4He in the semi-inclusive process 4He(e,ep)X are calculated within the Glauber multiple scattering approach using for the first time realistic four-body variational wave functions embodying central and non-central nucleon-nucleon (N-N) correlations. The contributions from N-N correlations and from Glauber multiple scattering are taken into account exactly to all orders. It is shown that non-central correlations significantly affect both the transparency and the distorted momentum distributions; as a matter of fact: i) the small (approx 3%) value of the effect of correlations on the transparency results from an appreciable cancellation between the short-range central repulsive correlations and the intermediate-range attractive correlations, whose magnitude is significantly affected by the non-central forces, and ii) the effect of Glauber final state interactions on the momentum distribution is reduced by the inclusion of tensor correlations.

A linked cluster expansion for the distorted one-body mixed density matrix is obtained within the Glauber multiple scattering theory with correlated wave functions. The nuclear transparency for 16O is calculated using realistic central and non-central correlations. The convergence of the expansion is investigated in the case of 4He for which the transparency and the distorted momentum distributions are calculated to all order in the correlations using a variational wave function obtained from realistic NN interactions. The important role played by non central correlations is illustrated.
A linked cluster expansion for the calculation of ground state observables of complex nuclei with realistic interactions has been used to calculate the ground state energy, density and momentum distribution of 16O and 40Ca. Using the same cluster expansion and the wave function and correlation parameters obtained from the energy calculation, we have evaluated the semi inclusive reaction A(e,ep)X taking final state interaction (FSI) into account by a Glauber type approach; the comparison between the distorted and undistorted momentum distributions provides an estimate of the transparency of the nuclear medium to the propagation of the hit proton. The effect of color transparency is also included by considering the Finite Formation Time (FFT) that the hit hadron needs to reach its asymptotic physical state.
The effects of the final state interaction (FSI) in semi inclusive deep inelastic electron scattering processes $A(e,ep)X$ off nuclei are investigated in details. Proton production is described within the spectator and the target fragmentation mechanisms whose relevance to the experimental study of the deep inelastic structure functions of bound nucleons and the non perturbative hadronization process is analyzed. Particular attention is paid to the deuteron target within kinematical conditions corresponding to the available and forthcoming experimental data at Jlab. We argue that there are kinematical regions where FSI effects are minimized, allowing for a reliable investigation of the DIS structure functions, and regions where the interaction of the quark-gluon debris with nucleons is maximized, which makes it possible to study hadronization mechanisms. Nuclear structure has been described by means of realistic wave functions and spectral functions and the final state interaction has been treated within an eikonal approximation approach which takes into account the rescattering of the quark-gluon debris with the residual nucleus and, in the case of complex nuclei, within an optical potential approach to account for the FSI of the struck proton.
Experimental cross sections for the $^4He(e,ep)X$ reaction up to a missing momentum of 0.632 GeV/$c$ at $x_B=1.24$ and $Q^2$=2(GeV/$c$)$^2$ are reported. The data are compared to Relativistic Distorted Wave Impulse Approximation(RDWIA) calculations for $^4He(e,ep)^3H$ channel. Significantly more events in the triton mass region are measured for $p_{m}$$>$0.45 GeV/$c$ than are predicted by the theoretical model, suggesting that the effects of initial-state multi-nucleon correlations are stronger than expected by the RDWIA model.

Electron-induced one-nucleon knock-out observables are computed for moderate to high momentum transfer making use of semi-relativistic expressions for the one-body and two-body meson-exchange current matrix elements. Emphasis is placed on the semi-relativistic form of the $Delta$-isobar exchange current and several prescriptions for the dynamical-equivalent form of the $Delta$-propagator are analyzed. To this end, the inclusive transverse response function, evaluated within the context of the semi-relativistic approach and using different prescriptions for the $Delta$-propagator, is compared with the fully relativistic calculation performed within the scheme of the relativistic Fermi gas model. It is found that the best approximation corresponds to using the traditional static $Delta$-propagator. These semi-relativistic approaches, which contain important aspects of relativity, are implemented in a distorted wave analysis of quasielastic $(e,ep)$ reactions. Final state interactions are incorporated through a phenomenological optical potential model and relativistic kinematics is assumed when calculating the energy of the ejected nucleon. The results indicate that meson exchange currents may modify substantially the $TL$ asymmetry for high missing momentum.
