In this paper we define and investigate Z/2-homology cobordism invariants of Z/2-homology 3-spheres which turn out to be related to classical invariants of knots. As an application we show that many lens spaces have infinite order in the Z/2-homology cobordism group and we prove a lower bound for the slice genus of a knot on which integral surgery yields a given Z/2-homology sphere. We also give some new examples of 3-manifolds which cannot be obtained by integral surgery on a knot.
We prove that the LOSS and GRID invariants of Legendrian links in knot Floer homology behave in certain functorial ways with respect to decomposable Lagrangian cobordisms in the symplectization of the standard contact structure on $mathbb{R}^3$. Our results give new, computable, and effective obstructions to the existence of such cobordisms.
The study of triangulations on manifolds is closely related to understanding the three-dimensional homology cobordism group. We review here what is known about this group, with an emphasis on the local equivalence methods coming from Pin(2)- equivariant Seiberg-Witten Floer spectra and involutive Heegaard Floer homology.
We obtain a formula for the Heegaard Floer homology (hat theory) of the three-manifold $Y(K_1,K_2)$ obtained by splicing the complements of the knots $K_isubset Y_i$, $i=1,2$, in terms of the knot Floer homology of $K_1$ and $K_2$. We also present a few applications. If $h_n^i$ denotes the rank of the Heegaard Floer group $widehat{mathrm{HFK}}$ for the knot obtained by $n$-surgery over $K_i$ we show that the rank of $widehat{mathrm{HF}}(Y(K_1,K_2))$ is bounded below by $$big|(h_infty^1-h_1^1)(h_infty^2-h_1^2)- (h_0^1-h_1^1)(h_0^2-h_1^2)big|.$$ We also show that if splicing the complement of a knot $Ksubset Y$ with the trefoil complements gives a homology sphere $L$-space then $K$ is trivial and $Y$ is a homology sphere $L$-space.
For each integral homology sphere $Y$, a function $Gamma_Y$ on the set of integers is constructed. It is established that $Gamma_Y$ depends only on the homology cobordism of $Y$ and it recovers the Fr{o}yshov invariant. A relation between $Gamma_Y$ and Fintushel-Sterns $R$-invariant is stated. It is shown that the value of $Gamma_Y$ at each integer is related to the critical values of the Chern-Simons functional. Some topological applications of $Gamma_Y$ are given. In particular, it is shown that if $Gamma_Y$ is trivial, then there is no simply connected homology cobordism from $Y$ to itself.
We introduce shadow structures for singular knot theory. Precisely, we define emph{two} invariants of singular knots and links. First, we introduce a notion of action of a singquandle on a set to define a shadow counting invariant of singular links which generalize the classical shadow colorings of knots by quandles. We then define a shadow polynomial invariant for shadow structures. Lastly, we enhance the shadow counting invariant by combining both the shadow counting invariant and the shadow polynomial invariant. Explicit examples of computations are given.
