We study ${cal N}=1$ supersymmetric $Spin(10)$ chiral gauge theories with a single spinor representation and $N$ vector representations. We present a dual description in terms of an ${cal N}=1$ supersymmetric $SU(N-5)$ chiral gauge theory with a symmetric tensor, one fundamental and $N$ antifundamental representations. The $Spin(10)$ theory with $N=0$ breaks supersymmetry at strong coupling; we study how this arises at weak coupling in the dual theory, which is a spontaneously broken gauge theory. Also, we recover various known dualities, find new dual pairs and generate new examples of dynamical supersymmetry breaking.

In this paper we study dynamical supersymmetry breaking in absence of gravity with the matter content of the minimal supersymmetric standard model. The hidden sector of the theory is a strongly coupled gauge theory, realized in terms of microscopic variables which condensate to form mesons. The supersymmetry breaking scalar potential combines F, D terms with instanton generated interactions in the Higgs-mesons sector. We show that for a large region in parameter space the vacuum breaks in addition to supersymmetry also electroweak gauge symmetry. We furthermore present local D-brane configurations that realize these supersymmetry breaking patterns.
We explore calculable models with low-energy supersymmetry where the flavor hierarchy is generated by quark and lepton compositeness, and where the composites emerge from the same sector that dynamically breaks supersymmetry. The observed pattern of Standard Model fermion masses and mixings is obtained by identifying the various generations with composites of different dimension in the ultraviolet. These single-sector supersymmetry breaking models give rise to various spectra of soft masses which are, in many cases, quite distinct from what is commonly found in models of gauge or gravity mediation. In typical models which satisfy all flavor-changing neutral current constraints, both the first and second generation sparticles have masses of order 20 TeV, while the stop mass is near 1 TeV. In other cases, all sparticles obtain masses of order 1 TeV predominantly from gauge mediation, even though the first two generations are composite.
This is a report on our newly proposed model of dynamical supersymmetry breaking with some details of the analysis involved. The model in the simplest version has only a chiral superfield (multiplet), with a strong four-superfield interaction in the Kahler potential that induces a real two-superfield composite with vacuum condensate. The latter has supersymmetry breaking parts, which we show to bear nontrivial solution following basically a standard nonperturbative analysis for a Nambu--Jona-Lasinio type model on a superfield setting. The real composite superfield has a spin one component but is otherwise quite unconventional. We discuss also the parallel analysis for the effective theory with the composite. Plausible vacuum solutions are illustrated and analyzed. The supersymmetry breaking solutions have generated soft mass(es) for the scalar avoiding the vanishing supertrace condition for the squared-masses of the superfield components. We also present some analysis of the resulted low energy effective theory with components of the composite become dynamical. The determinant of the fermionic modes is shown to be zero illustrating the presence of the expected Goldstino. The model gives the possibility of constructing a supersymmetric standard model with all (super)symmetry breaking masses generated dynamically and directly without the necessity of complicated hidden or mediating sectors.
The three generation heterotic-string models in the free fermionic formulation are among the most realistic string vacua constructed to date, which motivated their detailed investigation. The classification of free fermion heterotic string vacua has revealed a duality under the exchange of spinor and vector representations of the SO(10) GUT symmetry over the space of models. We demonstrate the existence of the spinor-vector duality using orbifold techniques, and elaborate on the relation of these vacua to free fermionic models.
We investigate supersymmetry breaking meta-stable vacua in N=2, SU(2)times U(1) gauge theory with N_f=2 massless flavors perturbed by the addition of small N=1 preserving mass terms in a presence of a Fayet-Iliopoulos term. We derive the low energy effective theory by using the exact results of N=2 supersymmetric QCD and examine the effective potential. At the classical level, the theory has supersymmetric vacua on Coulomb and Higgs branches. We find that supersymmetry on the Coulomb branch is dynamically broken as a consequence of the strong dynamics of SU(2) gauge symmetry while the supersymmetric vacuum on the Higgs branch remains. We also estimate the lifetimes of the local minima on the Coulomb branch. We find that they are sufficiently long and therefore the local vacua we find are meta-stable.
