We study the stability of fuzzy S^2 x S^2 x S^2 backgrounds in three different IIB type matrix models with respect to the change of the spins of each S^2 at the two loop level. We find that S^2 x S^2 x S^2 background is metastable and the effective action favors a single large S^2 in comparison to the remaining S^2 x S^2 in the models with Myers term. On the other hand, we find that a large S^2 x S^2 in comparison to the remaining S^2 is favored in IIB matrix model itself. We further study the stability of fuzzy S^2 x S^2 background in detail in IIB matrix model with respect to the scale factors of each S^2 as well. In this case, we find unstable directions which lower the effective action away from the most symmetric fuzzy S^2 x S^2 background.
We investigate the Wilson line correlators dual to supergravity multiplets in N=4 non-commutative gauge theory on S^2 x S^2. We find additional non-analytic contributions to the correlators due to UV/IR mixing in comparison to ordinary gauge theory. Although they are no longer BPS off shell, their renormalization effects are finite as long as they carry finite momenta. We propose a renormalization procedure to obtain local operators with no anomalous dimensions in perturbation theory. We reflect on our results from dual supergravity point of view. We show that supergravity can account for both IR and UV/IR contributions.
We show that in the quadratic curvature theory of gravity, or simply $R_{mu u} ^2$ gravity, the tree-level unitariy bound (tree unitarity) is violated in the UV region but an analog for $S$-matrix unitarity ($SS^{dagger} = 1$) is satisfied. This theory is renormalizable, and hence the failure of tree unitarity is a counter example of Llewellyn Smiths conjecture on the relation between them. We have recently proposed a new conjecture that $S$-matrix unitarity gives the same conditions as renormalizability. We verify that $S$-matrix unitarity holds in the matter-graviton scattering at tree level in the $R_{mu u} ^2$ gravity, demonstrating our new conjecture.
We derive the exact S-matrix for the scattering of particular representations of the centrally-extended psu(1|1)^2 Lie superalgebra, conjectured to be related to the massive modes of the light-cone gauge string theory on AdS_2 x S^2 x T^6. The S-matrix consists of two copies of a centrally-extended psu(1|1) invariant S-matrix and is in agreement with the tree-level result following from perturbation theory. Although the overall factor is left unfixed, the constraints following from crossing symmetry and unitarity are given. The scattering involves long representations of the symmetry algebra, and the relevant representation theory is studied in detail. We also discuss Yangian symmetry and find it has a standard form for a particular limit of the aforementioned representations. This has a natural interpretation as the massless limit, and we investigate the corresponding limits of the massive S-matrix. Under the assumption that the massless modes of the light-cone gauge string theory transform in these limiting representations, the resulting S-matrices would provide the building blocks for the full S-matrix. Finally, some brief comments are given on the Bethe ansatz.
We construct 4D $mathcal{N}=2$ theories on an infinite family of 4D toric manifolds with the topology of connected sums of $S^2 times S^2$. These theories are constructed through the dimensional reduction along a non-trivial $U(1)$-fiber of 5D theories on toric Sasaki-Einstein manifolds. We discuss the conditions under which such reductions can be carried out and give a partial classification result of the resulting 4D manifolds. We calculate the partition functions of these 4D theories and they involve both instanton and anti-instanton contributions, thus generalizing Pestuns famous result on $S^4$.
Let $k$ be a subring of the field of rational functions in $x, v, s$ which contains $x^{pm 1}, v^{pm 1}, s^{pm 1}$. If $M$ is an oriented 3-manifold, let $S(M)$ denote the Homflypt skein module of $M$ over $k$. This is the free $k$-module generated by isotopy classes of framed oriented links in $M$ quotiented by the Homflypt skein relations: (1) $x^{-1}L_{+}-xL_{-}=(s-s^{-1})L_{0}$; (2) $L$ with a positive twist $=(xv^{-1})L$; (3) $Lsqcup O=(frac{v-v^{-1}}{s-s^{-1}})L$ where $O$ is the unknot. We give two bases for the relative Homflypt skein module of the solid torus with 2 points in the boundary. The first basis is related to the basis of $S(S^1times D^2)$ given by V. Turaev and also J. Hoste and M. Kidwell; the second basis is related to a Young idempotent basis for $S(S^1times D^2)$ based on the work of A. Aiston, H. Morton and C. Blanchet. We prove that if the elements $s^{2n}-1$, for $n$ a nonzero integer, and the elements $s^{2m}-v^{2}$, for any integer $m$, are invertible in $k$, then $S(S^{1} times S^2)=k$-torsion module $oplus k$. Here the free part is generated by the empty link $phi$. In addition, if the elements $s^{2m}-v^{4}$, for $m$ an integer, are invertible in $k$, then $S(S^{1} times S^2)$ has no torsion. We also obtain some results for more general $k$.
